This thread is doomed from the start! No not the mention of Murphy but the very notion of spending good internet time being nice to someone! ;)

Very few presenters/Djs (cough) are actually a pleasure but I'll name Pat Kenny for being easily the most clued-up presenter - he sometimes 'knows too much' so to speak but that beats ignorance. Alan Green on Fivelive is great, in fact all the footie regulars are esp Conor McNamara who has come on in leaps and bounds since his early days with TV3. A cautious thumbs up for Tom McGurk I like his bluntness but not his bluster.

    Mike.

    The delightful Sarah on DCAL's 'LiveDrive' 7am - 10am.

Derek Mooney.... Of course ##COUGH##, U wanna hear MOOOOOOOOORE!

    Seriously though,
Ray D'arcy is one of the most genuine people on the radio :) I like tom dunne also, to a lesser extent...

    Yeah,unbelievable! I agree with you!!

If I was going to be picky I would say Conor has Anglified the accent a bit more than his length of stay in the UK would warrant....seems to me.

The guys on "off the ball" on news talk 106

They make the show fun but still deal have better topics / coverage / contributors than RTE sports could have in their wildest dreams.

compare to Des "Token clown" Cahill on RTE cracking wise with pat kenny
    cringe worthy:D

Neasa Ní Chualáin , Máirtín Jamesie, Máirtín Davy, Joe Cuaig , Seán Bán Breathnach

    all RnaG .

Put Seán on during a rugby international some time if you wanna hear a proper commentary unlike the usual drab d4 idiots / - token antipodean property developer doing a nixer - they normally have . Seán sounds like how the fans feel .

Other than Micheál O Muircheartaigh commenting on hurling Seán is the best live sports commentator in Ireland , by far.

Yeah those guys are ok,in small doses.

I find calling a person whose name is "Ger" "Ghurr" and constantly referring to football as "Fuhball" can get on me wick after a bit .There's also a geezer who does the football analysis who sounds like he is on prozac, and while i'm at it why do they have to speak in staccato tones for the full programme...

other than that it's not bad;)

He definitely has alright! Can't imagine he picked up the accent that quick.

Off The Ball can be good. They probably overdo the English soccer a bit. It's rare I turn on and they're not discussing it. Yeah that guy (can't think of his name) does sound a bit drugged alright. I think he tries to come across as though he doesn't give a ****. He perks up when interviewing people though.
The radio review in one of the papers said it sounds a bit like student radio and I'd kind of agree with that. They tend to ramble on a bit.

I love Off The Ball, though it's maybe not quite as good since Ger Gilroy moved to the morning show.. They do a great job in treating deserving targets with irrevent humour, and the feel of a very well-informed pub chat gives it an easy listenability. There is a heavy bias on soccer sometimes (occasionally 40%-50% of the show) but being primarily a soccer fan I've no problem with that..

Séan Moncrieff, love his presenting style and good humor :)

This is quite a conservative shortlist but probably reflects my
    yearning for quality mainstream programming.

Ronan Collins .. eclectic music tastes and quintessential public radio
    voice persona and style.

Matt Cooper - entertaining and informative - doesn't suffer fools gladly
IMO the best of the bunch of the drivetime infotainment genre at the
moment and not looking in danger of being ousted from there from
    my point of view.

Philip Boucher Hayes - plumby accent but a find the way he delivers news
content very engaging and he has a sense of humour. I don't know
why RTE haven't pushed him more into the foreground...

Dave Fanning - mixed feelings on this. It's a pity he's gone quite mainstream
and to some extent fallen for a slightly dumbed down content style
but he still has very entertaining quirks and has an infectious joie de
vivre style which comes across very well on radio. Not sure I like where
they have put him on the schedule though.

flame me ..but.. Derek Mooney -- I think he is a very talented guy. Sure,
"wanna hear more" is getting to be an irritating catch phrase but
so was "excira and delira" and other much repeated catch phrases by
Ireland's most famed radio/tv broadcaster. He comes across as
confident without being smug and his enthusiasm for the subject
matter he covers is quite infectious and helps the listener stay
    engaged.

More flame retardant needed here but..... Ryan Tubridy.. I couldn't abide
his show for the first 10-12 months. I think he is starting to relax and
become more natural now and I've been surprised as to how well he
has handled interesting morning debates on tricky topics such as
mental health, ethics, agnosticism versus Godly spirituality.

Oh.. not to forget about the female presenters.. quite a few.. but
unmistakebly high on the list would be..
Maxi - a complete natural for late night radio/light entertainment.

    Greenman -

I'd be in agreement with the majority of presenters you've listed there.
I had forgotten to add Richard Downes and John Murray to my own list
of mainly Irish based presenters who I think are very talented and
    radio friendly.

I think Downes and Murray are two of the brighter talents to have
emerged in recent times within RTE radio programming.
Neither are exactly spring chickens - where were they all these years ?
    backroom/research ? print journalists ?

Just because you weren't born in D4 doesn't mean you can't be D4.

These guys lost their original accents years ago, discarding them for the horrible fake D4 accent. The best voices on radio are those who remain true to themselves and speak with their original accents.

Back to the original point, Ray D'arcy and Tom Dunne are my favourite presenters.

Michael Corchran who does the rugby commentary for RTE Radio 1 is superb agree about the RnaG crew. Ryle Nugent is quite simply the worst tv commentator I have ever heard, talk about destroying the enjoyment of a match

without doubt the most biased commentator alive, he has a comical vendetta against the ref Tony Spreadbury, he's a bit clueless at times but at least he has passion so he gets the thumbs up

only reason Off The Balls gets called student radio is because its made by a bunch of lads in their 20s, its so far ahead of RTEs daily sports hour long show its fairly ridiculous and in fairness to them they do a genuinley good job of covering the eircom league

Sarah Francis on DCAL Live Drive. Talk Radio that actually gets you places, good music too.

Sean Moncrieff on Newstalk. Genuine, intelligent and very funny.

Dave Fanning on Radio 1. I always find his content interesting.

    Hmm.

    Sean Moncrieff from Newstalk
    Matt Cooper from Today FM

Other mentions for Ray D'arcy, Ian Dempsey, and when I get a chance, Janice Long on BBC Radio 2 makes for good bedtime listening IMO.
