Yes, i know its a day or 2 early, but the nerves are starting to hit in now already. It really is sh*t or get off the pot time for united, against benfica.

Also, big nights for arsenal and barcelona, amongst the other 8 teams that still can qualify.

How will all this pan out???

Indeedy, I fear for Arsenal as CSKA should dispatch Hamburg while Porto can certainly get a home win.

    Porto 13
    CSKA 11
    Arsenal 10
    Hamburg 0

    Is my guess.

Man Utd and Celtic - Utd should get the point they need and that'll suit Celtic too of course.

I fancy Werder Bremen to dump Barca into the UEFA cup.

Liverpool will field a team of younsters and bench warmers plus a couple of regulars who need match time.

No chance of that happening. Barcelona will win and win well.

If anyone is confused re: the Arsenal group, here is the criteria in the even of a three-way tie at the top, in descending order.
    • Higher number of points obtained in the matches between the teams in question
    • Superior goal difference from the matches between the teams in question
    • Higher number of goals scored away from home in the matches between the teams in question
    • Superior goal difference from all group matches played
    • Higher number of goals scored
    • Coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons

So basically the fourth teams results are eliminated and the other criteria are applied as usual.

Really fancy Utd to get the win we need....been playing well and were unlucky against Celtic.... 2-0 win on the cards

    come on utd!!!

Hope that Roma can do it against Valencia but they may find it hard without Er Pupone. Valencia aren't in great from now either though and were beaten by recreativo at the weekend. Big one for Utd on Wed. Come on Benfica.

What happens if (unlikely I know) Chelsea lose 2-0 to Sofia and Barca beat Bremen 1-0?

Doesn't that mean Chelsea go out, or am I missing something fundamental? I've been thinking about this for a while, and its wrecking my head...

Or is it (as I've been told) based on goal diff in the matches you play against another team and not overall?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Chelsea have already qualified i think.

If this happens then it will be between Chelsea and Bremen for 2nd Chelsea beat Bremen 2-0 at home and lost 1-0 away so would qualify.
Also my calculations suggest that if Porto and Arsenal draw then both would qualify as results would mean all sides would have a record of won 1 drawn 2 lost 1. GD Arsenal +1 Porto 0 CSKA -1. Look out for stalemate.

Valencia are missing plenty of players. Morientes, Villa, Moretti, Marchena, Miguel, del Horno, Edu, Albelda, Regueiro, Gavilán, Canizares, Ayala and Angulo. Add in the fact that Valencia have nothing to play for and their focus should be on the league I think it's a definite home win.

"Barca do not scare us; they are no better than we are," said Klaus Allofs, Werder's general manager. "This is a real final and we are facing the chance to make history. Barcelona could find themselves under pressure by their own fans and they cannot allow themselves to be knocked out."

Rijkaard replied: "When you see certain things said, you see that the fear is on the other side. If someone shouts about how they are going to qualify, they are revealing lots of doubts." Full preview

All bookies have the draw as odds on here which must be a first. Always follow the money. Both teams have done an Italian job.

really hope Barca go through, always want the big teams in the latter stages, makes it far more interesting.

Nah, that was my fault. Was confused myself about the rules when points finish the same in a group. :)

I want Barca to go through because they play entertaining football, but equally, I'd like to see them go out, as I think they're better than Bremen and them gone means less competition for Liverpool (as if that'll really matter ;) ).

    Liverpool Team

    Dudek
    Peltier-Agger-Paletta-Carragher
    Pennant-Alonso-Guthrie-Riise
    Fowler-Bellamy

Subs Martin Anderson Roque Darby Kuyt Crouch Garcia

Going for the win then! :)

Would be nice to see Anderson get a run out on the RW for 30mins.

I fancy Bremen to get a draw tonight and dump Barca into the UEFA cup. People rate Barca far too highly and Bremen are a very good side with some great players. I think it will be a score draw.

Who should we rate higher than the reigning European and Spanish champions who've also improved their squad during the summer and currently sit atop of La Liga...?

I know its only thefirst 7 mins but if barce keeps going at Bremen the way they are theres no way they wont score.

Exactly the reason the offside rule should be changed back. Offside is offside is offside. Barca on fire now, can't see Bremen coming back from this.
