If there is anybody here who is buying a bike in a box for christmas from argos or choose to take in a box from halfords or smiths. Im a experienced bike mechanic who has shop experience(not a not so handy andy)and i can assemble and service most bikes with systems including , disc, v-brakes, hydraulic discs, cantilevers. I have my own specialised bike tools for tightening parts such as bottom brackets and extracting cranks and trueing buckled wheels(very common among boxed bikes).
I am offering my services for a set price of e20 per bike and can have most bikes done within the hour (depending on assembly, kids bikes such as 12" 14" and 16" may take longer).
If you do choose to build yourself please do so before 24th as if your missing parts or have trouble building your not gunna have a happy christmas.
PM me with your details, and please if you do want my service try to avail of it soon because i cant build 100 bikes on the 24th!!!
here are some pics of my own bikes which i service every month and the carrera i built from the frame up

Now, I *know* you're not using this as a commercial bulletin board....So I'll help you spread the christmas cheer by pointing out that Halfords will assemble and test any bike you purchase from them. And they'll keep it there for you until Santa needs to collect it on the 24th too. They'll even have spare parts to hand if something's missing or hasn't survived the journey from lands afar intact. Helpful little elves. In fact, any bike shop will do this for you - even when it's not Christmas!

Failing that, I'll build your bike for free with all these special tools (headset press, BB & brake post facing etc. etc., yadda yadda), but I'll ask in return that you take your grubby €20 and spend it here instead:

    [ssf]Santas Strike Force [/ssf]

In fact, get the finger out and give 'em a few bob anyway, even if your LBS builds your bike for you.

PS: I'm not being a s***, but this ain't the place to turn a fast buck when the rest of the boards community are doing their best to put some coppers in the SSF bucket.
PPS: I'm serious, if you're stuck, I'll build your bike - But I want to see a receipt for your SSF donation. If you don't have paypal/credit card, bring the cash and I'll donate it for you.

Dare I suggest that a section of this forum be reserved for precisely the kind of commercial offer Kona makes? It could be made a "sticky" or whatever...

No they wont keep it till the 24th, i know this for a fact, what happens if all the bikes are damaged??if they dont have them?? no bike shop will be suicidal like that, most shops will have 22nd or 23rd as the absoloute latest which is just about sane. and most will be really happy if you take it in a box you may even push for a discount.

the parts to hand prob aint as good quality as the damaged one. best option is to return for a complete undamaged bike.

is your headset press a hammer and a piece of wood?? all boxed bikes are pre-assembled with the bb, and headset IN the frame and frame faced, so the is no need for those tools in 97% of boxed bikes, however i have the bb tools for both enclosed bb and cup and bearings type so i can service the bb, and tighten in all cases??how many people feel a wobble when cycling?? this is due to your bb being lose or the crank.

no your not your being a parasite and there will be no symbiosis going on.

do you think im ripping off people , i am offering a service that people need at this time of year, alot of bike shops will refuse to build after a certain date, they can only build so many. im not a 40 year old millionaire.

I'm offering to give my time freely - In aid of a boards driven Christmas charity. I'm not profiteering. I'm not hyping things up to people who may not know any better. I'm keeping to the spirit of the season.... Ghost Rider has a point - Offer your service if you want lad, but remember that competition is a healthy thing for the consumer. Not that I'm competing of course, as I'm not going to make a single cent from anything I do here.

You're not worth any more effort Kona.
