Small Claims Court to process claims online

    05 December 2006 15:49

Customers who are unhappy with goods or services can now seek compensation online as the Small Claims Court has launched a new online service.
Consumers can lodge an application and pay the €15 fee online.
They can then monitor the progress of their claim on the Internet.

The system is in operation on a pilot basis in 16 district court areas at the moment but it is planned to introduce it across the country by April next year.
The court deals with claims up to €2,000 in value for faulty goods, poor quality services, bad workmanship and minor damage to property.
Last year the court dealt with almost 3,000 cases; 78% were decided or settled in favour of the consumer.
The courts service plans to bring in more online systems over the next few years.
Next year it hopes people will be able to monitor High Court cases and pay court fines online.
