Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bloodshot eyes

    Hey guys,

I saw a thread here recently about bags under the eyes, and it caught my attention. My problem is a little different though - I suffer really badly from bloodshot eyes. Admittedly, I don't look after them particularly well. I wear contact lenses (often for longer than recommended), and I work with computers all day.

Anyway, despite this, even when I go on holidays and don't wear the contact lenses for a couple of weeks, I still seem to suffer from the same problem. Aside from giving up my job / eyesight, does anybody have any recommendations for improving the situation? Maybe a vitamin supplement or some kind of home remedy?

    Thanks,
    Angry.

It's just a symptom; you'll hve to work out the cause as only you know your lifestyle well enough.

If it's fatigue - good ol' rest helps. It's strain - glasses or laser surgery, etc. may help.

    - Vitamin A is very necessary for a healthy vision.
    - Eat spinach and take Lutein or spinach extract Contains carotenoid needed for retina and eye tissue.
    - Take a Vitamin B(2 and 6) complex [about 100 mg. of each B vitamin 3 times a day]. It’s been shown that B vitamin deficiency leads to bloodshot eyes.

Review your lifestyle. Visit an optician and/or GP(check blood pressure).

You're on a fast track to eye problems. Sounds like your corneas are oxygen-starved and your body is trying to get oxygen to them through the blood vessels in your conjunctiva. Your corneas are not supposed to have blood vessels in them - you may have noticed that they're transparent. The cells need to get oxygen through air and tears, but overwearing lenses and drying out eyes by fixating on a computer screen deny them this oxygen.

Ask your optician about the benefits of having white blood cells spilling into your corneas, clouding them for life!

First off I'd suggest going to your optician and have your eyes thoroughly checked out. After that I think you need to take a break from your contacts and wear your glasses. You may not like that but to do it for a little while could ensure that you will be able to continue wearing the lenses, if you carry on as you are your eyes may well end up being intolerant of wearing them.
On a daily basis then ( I too wear glasses and work on computers and or reading for a lot of my working day) maybe you can turn off your air con? If not get a plant for your desk as that makes the air around you better and get some Optrex Red Eye drops. They are less than €10.00 and are a life saver. Pop a few drops of those into your eyes a few times a day and you'll see a huge improvement.

Cool, thanks. I need a new set of frames, so I'll be visiting the opticians in the near future. I guess I'll forget about the contact lenses for now.

My optician suggested that I wear my glasses when studying or using a computer, because you don't blink as much, therefore drying out your eyes. I ignored her, and I suffered from blood shot eyes too, particularly when I'd just put in my lenses.

A quick fix is eye drops, try Optrex or you can get special ones from your optician. Lay off the contacts for a while, alright!
