Digiweb Metro - High Latency Lately

Has anyone else noticed their Metro connection become almost completely unusable for anything except downloading files?
I've found that even browsing can be a chore while you wait the second or two for the handshaking with webservers to finish before a site will even start to download.

And gaming is next to impossible (with anything that relies on a low latency connection - so, excluding World of Warcraft)

I'm just wondering if I'm alone on this one.

    Daniel

*edit* Just for the record, speeds are not at fault here. I've had little or no problems with maxing out the connection, it's only the high and fluctuating pings that are bothering me

did you ask their support if your signal had disimproved, all that wind recently you know .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

Yeah I know, when I rang them there didnt seem to be anything wrong at all. All I was told was that they can't guarantee ping times.

I've to gather some stats and send them in so they can be forwarded to the 'next level' of tech-support though (looks like there aren't any techy people on tech support any more :( )
*edit* also I noticed this _before_ the bad weather

What sort of ping times are you getting? try pinging boarrds for a while and paste the results in here then do a tracert to boards as well. It might show up where the latency is occuring.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

generally it fluctuates between 100ms and 400ms, depending on the server.

I'll do some testing later on tonight to boards.ie and see what the story is there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

Hmm.. signal shouldn't really affect pings. Affect packet loss maybe.

also try ftp.heanet.ie with the -t option.

See what packet loss aas well as ping time is. Ctrl-C exits and displays summary stats.

Yeah me too,up til about 2-3 weeks ago everything was soooooo good but now the lag is back, mainly around peak times, had someone come out who said it was a bad signal and there was nothing he could do.it sorted itself out before so im just hoping it will again...

which mast are you getting your signal from?

hi all.i have metro also from treerock.so so bad of late.speedtests from irishisptest show it anything from 1mb-2.5mbs down and 100kbs-500 upload.main prob is ping max pause anywhere from 100ms to 700ms!. i play bf 1942 on a uk server and lag has got 2 bad as late.also ring tec and got the usual speil that nothing wrong with my line."they had my line on monitor 4 the last 10 days but nothing showed up as wrong" my bo...x. had so many faults of late and to night total lack of service til about 30mins ago.as was said my service was brill for the first few weeks but at this stage i'd rather get a phone line in and pay extra for eircom(omfg i cant believe i said that!).so i have had my rant and i'm sorry but very annoyed by as customers we get such poor service and support(use those terms so loosely) as do they!

also on three rock and have been unable to use blueface voip for the last three weeks-it would help if digiweb would at least own up to what the problem is.

The busiest mast in all of Ireland no less. It could be interference or else ye could all be on a busy sector or both

Indicate your direction from 3rock as in (e ne n nw w) to see if there is any further pattern ??

any time of day pattern ??

  • Registered Users Posts: 842 ✭✭✭pjproby

testing it using the blueface network tester it was usable up to 6pm after that rubbish-the voip that is-broadband itself not too bad but i was more concerned with the loss of my phone service.

I got the serive installed about 2 weeks ago. When it was installed ping times were around 10 - 50 ms ie Excellent. Now look at what they are

The service is dreadful. How are they supposed to offer realtime VOIP traffice over a connection like this...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

Damn it I forgot about this again.

At the moment, pings are absolutely fantastic. Some minor spikes from ~20/30 to ~60, but that's not entirely uncommon.

    Ping statistics for 82.195.136.250:
    Packets: Sent = 45, Received = 45, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 61ms, Average = 29ms

It's the evening that is completely destroying my faith in all things interweb :(

    Hey,
I'm with digiweb for 3-4 months now, I'm in Crumlin but I've no idea what mast I'm on. At first the connection was impresively fast, did notice DNS querys took longer than usual, but all was fine. Could BT and surf comfortably.

Everything seems to have slowed down recently, with BT using only 25k surfing is as bad as dialup. Pings are erratic and tracerouting shows some delays:
    $ traceroute boards.ie
traceroute to boards.ie (82.195.136.250), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

Hope this is only a temporary issue.

    try http://mytraffic.digiweb.ie/
have you used up all your rolling 30 day cap? (upload + download).

Tune your torrents. Limit their upload BW. Going full belt is not sensible for you or fair for anyone else.

  • Registered Users Posts: 26 Garth Farley

    Don't worry, I'm a good boy:)
Am aware of my usage, I limit my BT usage to off-peak times usually and even then I limit my up and download speeds.
    I hadn't this issue 2 months ago.

Well just this second I'm getting a grand total of 74k from a server that pretty much max's out any connection that downloads from it (and that's not a joke ...)

Looks to me like Digiweb is heading down a slippery slope :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 842 ✭✭✭pjproby

voip is still unusble here-the three rock mast is clearly overstreched- i can test the voip signal and it deteriorates as the day wears on and presumably as users log on.

hi all.i was lucky to have a few weeks of good service but since xmas its a joke! have all the issues mentioned in these threads. they still say nothing wrong with there end (lying b@st@rds) sorry but stresed from them. have sent mail with results from http://speedtest.digiweb.ie/ (notice there is no ping times) and for a change, still no call or relpy.what a shock! its ibb/clearwire all over again.
anyway has anyone here had it resolved or am i being  as a brush even asking?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,243 ✭✭✭zoro

The connection has been utterly disatrous for me for quite a while now. However today is the worst it has ever been (ignoring disconnected periods)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 370 ✭✭Adey2002

I'm on Three Rock also, ping has been bouncing up and down for weeks, expecially during peak hours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,125 ✭✭✭game4it70

AT LONG LAST they admit a fault but what use is this email i just got.

    Hi Keith

We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it.

We hope to have it done in the next while but we don’t have a definite date.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

[MOD EDIT] No posting of personal details please

Dam sounds like the bull I get from IBB and I was really thinking these guys could be an alternitave to IBB, im not so sure now, perhaps its better the devil ya know.

I was really thinking these guys could be an alternitave to IBB, im not so sure now, perhaps its better the devil ya know.

Its (by far) the busiest mast in the country is 3 rock so anything that can go wrong will go wrong up there or around there owing to spectrum usage or abusage or whatever .

No issues like this have been reported from any other Metro masts whereas IBB overloaded early and overloaded often in their bad old days and denied everything at all times .

No comparison between them in my opinion. Digiweb have some pride in their own professionalism.

" Digiweb have some pride in their own professionalism. "

    lol sponge bob.
lack of in my op.it took numerous calls and mails to get them 2 admit fault and the same 2 get that vague usless mail.
