Right so the things I need to know are what kinda hard drive will I need to be compatible with my mobo which is this one:

    http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Asus_P4S8X_MX_Motherboard,__10347628

Now this is the hard drive ive been looking at(reccomened by a friend) and im pretty sure its compatible!

Now if thats right on to the next part of my problem, INSTALLATION :D

Ok so I want to do it all myself, I have a pretty good knowledge stuff but I said I would ask in pc world see what they would tell me!

Heres what a foreign guy told me(couldn't really understand him) he said there was a few ways to do it.

    1. Buy a hard drive which there had there!
    2. Pop it in the pc and switch the master cable and put it in the new one.
    3. Put in my windows xp cd and install xp onto that drive.
    4. Then switch around the cables again and put the slave cable into the new one.

That sound right? My friend said I didn't need to install xp onto it!
(he just spent 2 grand on a pc and built it himself so he knows he stuff lol)

    Help appreciated :D

Yes your motherboad will be able to handle SATA or IDE (older of the two but still fine) hard drives. You could leave Windows where it is installed and put in the new hard drive as a Slave drive, look at the rear of the drive for the jumper settings and then place the drive on the same cable as the Master hard drive. Each IDE channel, Primary and Secondary (might be where your CD/DVD ROM is) supports 2 drives.

i have two of them harddrives absolutely brilliant.

but i don't think there's any jumper settings on them i think they configure themselves to which sata port they are plugged into.

don't quote me on this cause i've had the drives a while a can't remember if they had jumpers.

Its ok, I confused myself as well.:) SATA hard drives (like the one you have linked) have no jumpers on them afaik. I don't know if its compatible with your mobo or not, I'll check it out later if you don't get a response. Anyway to install those drives I think that it is just to check BIOS settings have 'SATA enabled' or something like that.
