why not spend the day at the "Soldiers and Chiefs" Exhibition at Collins Barracks.

If you have any interest in Irish History this is a gem of an exhibition, in fact the best I have been to in any museum.

You could spend a whole day there :)

There are some good hotels for lunch towards Benburb Street ( 5 mins walk) so you can avoid the queues in the Museum Cafe.

And if you don't like it :

    1. It is free admission
    2. Daniel Day Luas stops just outside for a quick getaway !

shopping in town or dundrum... dundrum in particular.
get a dart out to dalkey or killiney and go for a walk if you want to see what qualifies as the outdoors in dublin. nice houses too.
wander around trinity a bit (not for too long)
Grab a bite to eat anywhere between grafton street and georges street while checking out the christmas lighting and so forth.

depends on your age and tastes i guess.

There's a gig in Slattery's in Rathmines on Friday 15th of December - Ed Tierney's Acoustmas party. Check it out under Gigs and Events, I believe it's made it's way to page 2 :)
