It's scheduled to open thursday 14th december, 3 days from today. I went for a drive along along all the connecting roads friday evenin, it's possible that none of the link roads will be opened just for traffic continuing through the town. Thw recent weather probably hasn't helped them meeting the deadlin.

Official opening ceremony has been postponed from 21 December til early January, the weather has caused the delay. They still hope traffic will be travelling on the bypass before the end of the year but due to workers taking holidays and the likes it is unlikely to be in use before the start of 2007.

The opening of Section 1 N18 Eastern Bypass – Dromoland to Barefield has been postponed until January.
It has now been confirmed that the first section of the N18 Eastern Bypass - Dromoland to Barefield will not be opened to traffic prior to Christmas.
It is now anticipated that this section of the new bypass will open to traffic in mid to late January 2007, the exact date yet to be confirmed.
Clare County Council staff on the N18 Ennis Bypass would like to wish everybody a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

    :(

Brian get out there and finish it for them :D

New opening date proposed is 26 January, work is continuing fairly well at the minute, the entire length can be travelled, just road markings and signage to complete, along with finishing work at the Barefield interchange. Just a message to those former and current housemates of mine who seem to have infiltrated this bastion of Mid-West information unbeknowenst to me or the inappropriate authorities.

Cullen to open new Ennis bypass
    Last Updated: 26/01/2007 06:18

Another of the country's traffic bottlenecks will be finally cleared today as the new Ennis bypass in Co Clare opens ahead of schedule.
The 14km dual carriageway will initially take 14,000 vehicles out of the town each day and this is expected to rise to 35,000 as traffic volumes keep increasing over the next 20 years.
Transport Minister Martin Cullen will open the road. The €120 million stretch of the N18 is part of the Western Road Corridor linking Tuam, Co Galway to Limerick City.
When work began in April 2004 it had been expected to take three years to complete.

Used it today heading to Galway and obviously it is a massive improvement by bypassing Clarecastle and Ennis.

2 cribs about it, one slightly more serious than the other:

    - The width of the hard shoulder and the lanes - they seem to be slightly narrower than the existing dual carriageway from Limerick.

    - Where the old road merges with the new road is a disgrace, it will probably be rectified over the coming weeks but a lorry load of tarmac would have done wonders to it for the time being.

Roll on with the Crusheen and Gort bypasses.
