I'm pretty sure that Tha_Gopher had his moan about this on a Feedback thread of his own not to far back and his rose tinted view of the "good old days" was fairly roundly disputed by those who were there at the time.

Even if there was a "good old days", life moves on and things evolve..and that includes rules and structures

I instituted the "civility" rule from Day One. I have never accepted people attacking the poster and I think in fact that people have become RUDER on boards now then they were when there was a smaller number of users.

But people revise history to suit themselves.

Gotta agree with DeV though, the lack of civility has only increased over the years - that's not to say we weren't without incident back in the brown days, but as a closer knit community, most of us were on first name basis anyway and we never needed huge amounts of time/energy to fix things.

If I were in charge I'd ban everyone and have the whole place to myself! The biggest problem with anything is the end user, be it bulletin boards, networks, hotels, cars etc...
