From rte.ie/news, common sense but be aware as usual coming up to Christmas.
The Central Bank has issued a warning on counterfeit banknotes as the Christmas spending season gathers pace.

The bank says that as the use of cash hits its peak, there is a corresponding increase in the opportunities for counterfeiters to pass off fake banknotes to unsuspecting consumers.

It has urged shoppers to be extra vigilant, and pass on any suspect notes to Gardai.

The Central Bank advises people that when a real banknote is held up to the light, a picture and the value of the banknote become visible as a watermark, while a security threat can also be seen as a dark line.

It adds that on the €5, €10 and €20 notes, a hologram appears on the foil stripe on the front of the banknote. On higher value notes, the hologram appears on the foil patch on the front of the note.
