Hope somebody might be able to help me here -

I have the eircom broadband which i use wireless -

i was on the web yesterday and got a message that the connection had been lost - checked the broadband modem and that was ok, no loose connections or anything - went into connectivity on the laptop and when i went to see the wireless connection it asked me for a WEP key

how do i get this? Will i need to contact eircom?

Yes , unless you use your router settings online which can be tricky.

A better option (I think anyways!) would be to go into the router using a cable connection http://192.168.1.254 and disable wep and enable wpa - wpa is more robust than wep and you can set your own password for the wireless network.
