I'm only getting 1.47 Mbps download and 121kbps upload according to www.speedtest.ie

Has anyone else got BB and getting similar speeds? Is there any more accurate check?

nobody gets over 1.75mb anyway , eircoms 2mbit product includes 256k of overhead so the real speed is 1.75mbit. This is a feature not a bug according to eircom . BT resell this product as do all the others.

dont use the speed tests as a be all and end all for judging your connection speed.

Dont forget they are run through a http protocol and you're going to loose bits to that protocol transmission itself so it will have an effect on the displayed result, that could be the overhead they were talking about

Go to a download site with high bandwidth and thats not busy and see how close you can get to 200k download speeds, that will give you a better idea of how fast your connection is. 100k for 1MB and 300k for 3MB obviously.

try find a large iso or file on the ftp.esat.net site and download it, or somehting off heanet will give you a better idea

Welcome to what passes for Broadband in Ireland. Depending on where you are, age of line, distance from exchange, contention ect your BB speeds can range from not much better than dial-up to just about acceptable. I would love to be getting speeds of 1.47Mbps. The lack of investment in Eircom(and of course the privatisation debacle) over the last 20-30 years is coming home to bite us.

And never forget that issues like your line quality affect your speeds not to mention that you are buying a contended product.
