Great day for England and Monty Panesar.

Great to see Monty take his chance, 5-90 so far.

Good bowling from England and Monty taking 5 wickets was the best highlight so far. England stepping in now to bat and hitting a few boundaries in the first 3/4 overs. I need sleep

Sounds like a great days cricket. Damn those Aussie time zones

& damn those Sky TV bastards

Monty Panesar is new England legend, but looks like England batsmen could self destruct again. Warnie hasnt even got bowling yet

THIRD TEST, PERTH, DAY ONE (STUMPS):
    AUSTRALIA 244 V ENGLAND 51-2

great first day bowling for england, shame about the batting.
monty does the business but i feel it`s two tests to late

im just wondering wheter Monty bowling superbly(as everyone knew he would bar 1) will cost fletcher his job?

even if, and remembering its only the end of day 1 they manage to win this test, i personally cant see the aussies losing the rest, so its safe to say the ashes are going down under, will the decision to persist with Giles cost Fletcher his job, hmmm,

That thought struck me too when I heard the close of play figures. The selectors have been to look like chumps to some degree.

[sarcasm]but Giles would have got a century had he been picked...[/sarcasm]

delighted Monty did the business.....he was already legend

Indeed. David Lloyd was alluding to something about the selection of Giles in Adelaide. Something happened to change the minds of someone to select Giles ahead of Panesar, or both together. We've not heard the last of that.

You cant help but feel the enthusiasm that Monty has. The Aussies love him already.

Not this side of the World Cup.

Things going splendid so far today... if you're an ozzie.

Hayden looks set to make a century and Hussey's got a start now so they'll never get rid of him. Averages 81 in test cricket and since he's played over 20 innings that average counts in the all time records. Puts him second, a long way behind Don Bradman and a long way ahead of Graham Pollock. Damn

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,161 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Woohoo, Hayden gone. Monty does the trick. I should post about how there's no chance of England getting a wicket more often.

Hussey is OUT *for a hundred just before tea....

Panesar to Hussey, OUT, the change has worked for England. Pitches way outside off, hardly spins in at all and that's a very thin outside edge snapped up by Jones. A wicket at last, but too late
    MEK Hussey c Jones b Panesar 103 (156b 12x4 0x6) SR: 66.02

    Symonds failed again,
    A Symonds c Collingwood b Panesar 2

Monty doing better than most, tbh, but not enough.

    373/5,
    Gilchrist 0* Clarke 87*

    *Yes, it happened!

Clarke and Gilchrist are as much on fire as northern Victoria....

95 off the last 60 balls....

Gilchrist can get the fastest 100 in balls faced. 81 scored from 47 balls... needs to score 19 in 9 balls to beat Viv Richards record of 100 in 56 balls.

    496/5

    Ooooh... he missed it...

A wideish ball was bowled by Hoggard, so its target missed for Gilchrist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

He got the 100, still the 2nd fastest test hundred, and in that over, the declaration came.

    so...

    Australia 244 & 527/5d (112.0 ov)
    England 215
Australia lead by 556 runs with 5 wickets remaining

Stunning turn by Gillchrist there, can England save the match? (don't answer that!).

The fivelive boys said he bowled perfectly well during that over, Gilchrist was just 'in the zone', sometimes a batsman can be unstoppable.

Well, he wanted to bowl the following over, but Flintoff put Hoggard on. The crowd booed that decision. But with Gilchrist and Clarke in that form, they massacred Hoggard too.

    Strauss out fourth ball.

A good day so far for England.

    Into the post tea session,

    England 184/2

    AN Cook 84*
    Collingwood 4*

    Bell c Langer b Warne 87

The pitch is playing very well, Warne is turning it sideways, but they are coping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    185/3

    Collingwood c Gilchrist b Clark 5

..... batting collapse ahoy? After Pietersen, who's at the crease now.... Flintoff, Jones, and the bowlers.... not promising!
