Last year, it triggered a major row when a discussion here resulted in the renowned US space agency climate scientist Dr James Hansen later claiming he had come under pressure not to talk to the media on global warming issues.

Just goes to show how dangerous a self-serving ignorant Bush administration is, not just for america but the entire world. Not to mention America's far right. They would be happy plunging the country back into the dark ages if it allowed them a free reign. This is what you get when mixing religion with politics and allowing big business and multinational corps too much say and power.

I've always thought that right and left were simply different points of view, but time and time again it seems to be that 'right' at least on social and political issues is often synonomous with 'backward,' or 'ignorant' be it climate change, global warming, equal rights for gays or even mass murder and genocide for priviate and corporate greed.

Welcome to the real world. Left and right is not simply about a difference of opinions. It's about a completely different way of looking and interacting with the world.

Look at this way, being "right" is often about being completely wrong about a lot of things (such as climate change, the inhumane truth of capitalism etc etc)

There's nothing particularly new about a government silencing opinions contrary to their own warped logic in order to protect vested interests
