Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A very pronounced east/west split today.

Not exactly east west, more like SE/NW, but here I have a windy SW 13C, Dublin AP 35 miles to north a N 8C.

    at 15z
Kilkenny, Cork & Rosslare have a mainly dry 12/13C with blustery SW wind, rest of country have light drizzle/rain 5-8C with light wind.

Pretty much around 11.9c all day

Any chance of these awful clouds clearing later on, as i'd hate to miss one of the best chances for the northern light in ages

Min was 11.9 and it went up to 12.2c for a while.

So I got (and Kilkenny) got a taste of the other side for a while as a result of a wriggle in the cold front. See attached graph.
    Arklow didn't.
If that drop didn't happen it would have been a record min by some margin for Dec as it was above 12C for more than 24 hours.

It was still a record high daily mean though...

No, i stayed up for a while but it never cleared. There's more chance for tonight, tomorrow night and possbly Sunday night, but not quite as big a threat as last night. Temp is 5.2C here, it fell pretty sharply yesterday afternoon and has stayed pretty low since

Only 4.2c here now in moderate rain at lunchtime.
Wind is NW straight down from croghan mt.
It must be getting wintry up on lugnaquilla.

Thats an 8 degree drop on this time yesterday.

    And it drops even further

    3.8c now

    DP is 3.1c

Though the DP doesnt support it well,It must surely be very wintry up on lugnaquilla or even on croghan mt (near me) at 2000ft

When the clearer colder air digs in at the back edge of your rain,Dp might drop enough to see a little sleet maybe wet snow for you before it clears with your low air temps.

It will be a cold night for sure.

A friend of mine farms beside croghan mountain at about 1500ft and he said there was wet snow falling there in the afternoon.
It has settled on the mountain above 1800ft.
I'd imagine Lugnaquilla and most of the higher hills in wicklow would also have a covering as they are higher.
