dont think this should be in consumer issues but anyways

if ballymun did lose jobs it would serve them right for giving out about ikea , traffic etc particulalry given the area and employment levels (i remember residents in ballymun organising a protest because bally regenration weren't employing "locals" so now they get their boatload of jobs and now they give out)

its idiots like these that cause progress in this coutry to be so slow sometimes and im living just in between finglas / ballymun areas now about 800metres from where the Ikea will be BTW

In fairness it's not necessarily local people in the area objecting - the major objections are from the association of hardwares (or something like that) and furniture shop who say it will be unfair competition. They obviously think us consumers shouldn't have the option of purchasing cheaper goods if we want. The other main objection is traffic and the knock on effect on the M50 - so people living outside the area but who maybe use the M50 that could be objecting.

With Blanchardstown Centre, Liffey Valley etc all off the M50 and now with the Port Tunnel letting out at the M50 - the motorway is never going to be anything but a bit car park anyway. They may as well let us have IKEA too!

IKEA should be on M/N7 spur ouside Naas. Is there room for two on the island? Almost certainly -the rate of house building/extending and general beautification continues apace and will do for years if the demographics can be trusted.

    Mike.
