Is there a probate register than you can check whether in fact probate has been taken out?

Go to the probate office in Smithfield.

If it is not convenient to call to the Probate Ofice in person I think that you can write to them for the information you need.

If the deceased died outside Dublin I think that you may be able to apply to a local office for the same information. Check with the Probate Office first and they will steer you in the right direction.

In return for a small fee (don't remember as it is so long since I did this myself) you can get a copy of the GRANT of PROBATE and the deceased's will.
