Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm trying to record a .smil stream off the rte website. Want to send my brother an mp3 of a show I listened to. Tryed a couple of free stream recorders i found in google, can't get any of the bloody things to work.

Remember using some one a year ago that worked nicely but I've forgotten what it was called. Any recommendations.

I download a bit from the RTE website. There are two steps.

First, you gotta save the .smil file to your desktop (its a tiny file) and then open it in notepad. Inside you'll find a line of text which will include the .rm file that you will need to download. It will start with rtsp:// and end in .rm.

Secondly, to download this file you need a download manager. I use Flashget, It's easy to use and it's free. http://www.download.com/FlashGet/3000-2071_4-10619573.html?tag=lst-0-1

After you download the Flashget what do you do with the Notepad tag?

Just got to 'edit' and 'paste url' in Flashget and paste the rtsp://---.rm url that you got in the notepad text. The file should start downloading automatically.

Greenman, if you follow my eariler instructions and save that .smil file to your desktop then open with notepad, you will find the following rtsp stream in it... rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2006/1222/22122006rte-liveline.rm

Copy this and paste it into Flashget and the download will start. Just tried it and it's working for me

Found Flashget the sort of prog that takes over things. Would anyone know another one?

BTW Radioman thanks very much for your help.

    Happy NY to all.

I use a little app called Audio Hijack, it costs about €15 but I think you can get a free trial, it basically lets you record almost anything that's playing through your computer, it supports most file types and is easy to use.

    AFAICS one catch,
Audio Hijack is only available for Mac OS X!

    Any other progs out there?

Net Transport can also catch streams and form them into a file on your hard drive

Its not free (25 euro I think ) but it gives you a 90 day trial

Download Streambox VCR Suite from a site such as This one and install it.

Next, download the .smil file to your computer. Open the .smil file in notepad (right-click to do this). Somewhere within the gibberish you'll find a line of text which reads something along the lines of rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2006/1228/28122006rte-drivetime-dri-davefanning-1900-2000-th.rm

    Copy this to your clipboard.

Next, go back to your Start Menu, go to Streambox VCR and pick Streambox Vcr 1.0 beta 31smf+turbo (try this first - fastest)

Paste in the URL. If all goes well, the program will be downloaded.

Now, go back to Streambox VCR on the Start Menu and run the Streambox Ripper. This will convert the file into an mp3
