Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Which offers the best picture quality? An upscaling HDMI player or a HD component cable from the xbox 360?

i think to upscale on 360 you need a 360 vga cable to your tv ,maybe your tv has an inbuilt upscaler?

really depends on the dvd player, if there's good scaler technology in your tv letting the tv do the upscaling might even be best

Unless you are getting a very very good upscaling DVD player, I would not bother because, as already said, the TV will most likely upscale adequately.

Especially considering the TV will probably scale the picture anyway. What I mean is that if you feed it 1280x720 it will either draw black lines all around the picture or upscale it to 1366x768 which most likely is the native resolution of the tv you have.

The "difficulties" that you can come across with intensive scaling on a "bad" scaler is that the sound is decoded quicker than the pictures are scaled so you get a lip sync delay. Hence why a very very good Upscaler will also feature an audio delay.

The audio delay can also be done by an amplifier/receiver if you have one with that feature.

One final point about upscaling DVD players: you won't actually get a better picture compared to a normal PAL Progressive Scan DVD player. i.e. just because you use HDMI, doesn't mean you get extra lines out of the DVD...

I thought the upscaling DVD player would do the upscaling rather than the TV?

I saw a nice one for €70 and I was thinking of getting it up if there is little difference in picture quality then I wont bother

All tv's will upscale and deinterlace, some don't do it so well, the sonys probably do a decent enough job of it. a 70 euro player probably won't do that much for picture quality and its upscaling is probably worse than the tvs. Don't know much about the xbox360s dvd playback but it should be better than a low end dvd player. When playing dvds can you change the output settings of the xbox360 from 720p to standard pal(576i) that would give you an idea of the xbox360s upscaled progressive picture vs your tv doing the deinterlacing and upscaling.

hdmi is also a good thing to have but if the deinterlacing of the dvd player is worse than the tvs deinterlacing, sending a standard pal(576i) signal over component might give you better results.

This seems to get good reviews so for €70 I was gona risk it
