On the other hand, the S8 vs. the XM was ridiculous.

Erm... on the performance side of things, whilst the S8 would probably have the edge on a motorway, I have my doubts as to its 'superiority' over the XM on the twisty turnies ;)

(Of course, I'm not disagreeing about the off-road and jumps craporama sections in the said scene :D )

As for particularly good chases in other films, the usual suspects have been mentioned (Bullit, opening scene in The Transporter) but I'd like to add the opening scene of Subway (Luc Besson, mid-80s, 205 1.6 GTI, Christophe Lambert 'at the wheel').

And you just have to have the closing chase of the Blues Brothers, I'm afraid.

Opening scene in the Italian Job in the Lamborghini Miura towards Frejus Tunnel on the border between Italy and France does it for me, and the rest of the cars in that movie!

Also the opening scene in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtug7J592E8 Layer Cake with the Audi RS6, Layer cake is an excellent movie BTW, Daniel Craig practice run for Bond IMO

I'll pretend I didn't see the bit where you reckon the Citroen would have the edge over a 4wd Audi S8.;)
I'd agree with you about the start of the Italian job with the Lamborghini, that was class and the fact there was a Daimler Majestic Major or 2 in the film too. Its a pity there wasn't a bit more car action in Layer Cake especially with the RS6.

The DVD BMW created a few years back had some great moments in it with Clive Owen in the driving seat.
The best one is 'Star' directed by Guy Richie with his missus as the star. Well worth a watch!

(should I move the off topic posts into a new thread or leave them as thye are?)
