Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey,

I reinstalled windows last night and removed all partitions on my standard drive.

I did have a sata drive before hand though and now it is not showing up, not in my computer or in disk management.

    Any ideas?

    Moving to Windows.

If a hard drive is missing from Windows then the likely hood is you need to install the driver for the controller that it is attached to.

    All current SATA controllers integrated into motherboards can emulate an IDE device so Windows does not require a driver however there are scenraios were Windows requires a driver;

If a third part controller is integrated into the board
    Controller in a PCI slot.
The native controllers are configured to operate in RAID mode
First gen SATA controllers had no IDE emulation mode.

If you know the make & model of your motherboard we should be able to point you in the right direction for the driver.

The drive isn't relevant. Its the controller on the board that you need drivers for.

Like 8T8 said, you need to get the SATA drivers for your motherboard/controller and then either put them on a floppy (and press F6 during the boot from windows CD when prompted) or use a utility called nlite to create a custom XP install disk with the drivers integrated.

The P4P800 uses the Intel 865 chipset which should have the IDE emulation mode so you do not have to install any drivers.

Go into the bios, find the IDE configuration section & set it like so below,

Onboard IDE Operate Mode = Enhanced Mode
    Enhanced Mode Support On = P-ATA + S-ATA
Configure SATA as RAID = No

Now save & exit the bios, when you boot into Windows it should find the SATA HD if it has not been formatted go into the disk management console and create a partition on it & then format.

If the drive does not show then something else is wrong.

Try updating the bios to 1019 & clear the CMOS afterwards. You can use AsusUpdate to flash the new bios in Windows.

Be sure also to install the Intel chipset drivers.
