Smoking Hairdressers?

Is it just my imagination or is it that a very disproportionate number of hairdressers smoke? If so any thoughts on why this might be the case?

Damnit, I was full sure that the governement had sought to dispel the myth and finally get around to putting "Warning! Smoking does not increase hairdressing ability" on fag boxes

I've noticed that too but just put it down to the fact that I usually don;t get so close to strangers so don't smell/see it.

Most of the L.C.A's from my year went to do hairdressing. Common as muck, probably smoke 'cos its the chavvy cool thing to do.

hairdressers are often sexy but oddly unough I find they have bloody terrible hair styles, dye jobs.

Good to see your education (presumably non-LCA) has not been wasted.

As Thaedyal already said, it's because they think it stops them gaining weight.

I presume she's saying the girls she knows are common, not that all hairdressers are.

What a fantastic reason to smoke! Ah sure don't bother having good eating habbits or exercising just kill yourself quicker! Now there is some logic!!

Well, they start smoking as it surpresses appetite (I know some models who've started smoking for this very reason also) so they can either lose weight or stop them putting it on, then they're terrified that if they stop smoking, they'll put on a load of weight as its a common effect that happens those who quit, as their appetite/cravings return and demand they eat more/eat more crap.

May not be the most logical thing to do, but smoking definately surpresses the appetite so its a quick and easy way for them to maintain/lose their weight, despite the damage cigarettes are known to do.
