What a great start to the New Year - the clutch went on my 2000 VW Bora 1.6.

I know absolutely diddly squat about cars and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much this is gonna cost me to get fixed. I won't be using a main dealer, but a good business I use in the north east.

Would it be €400, would it be more, all in?

    Thanks in advance.

ive started having problems with the clutch on my 00 polo, and was told that it wont last much longer. Was asking around and was told that the clutches in recent VWs are not great and nearly always need to be changed, someone told me that they paid 1000 to get a clutch on their Bora changed but im sure you can get it done a bit cheaper if you dont go to a main dealer! i would definitely price around.have you had any other problems with it? what milege is on it?

    Kate,

There are approx 125k miles on it ( I live in Louth and work in south Dublin:mad:). Anyway, I've found it a complete pleasure. Never had any probs with it. None. My other half has an '03 Polo and, again, it's been great -there are 80k miles on it. No probs, either. We're a VW family:) €400 for the clutch, by the way.

I'd say it would be more than €400 - especially in Dublin. If you choose VW parts then it will push the cost up a wee bit. Main dealer prices will cost even more.

I know somewhere in North Dublin city that will do it for you at a keen rate. PM me if you want details.

Clutch and gearbox seem to be troublesome areas on some recent VWs according to my regular mechanic.

Eh, funny you should mention that, but not in a humorous way, I've now been told that both gearbox and clutch are goosed. €450 for the clutch. €750 for the gearbox, second hand. Happy New Year.
