Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Getting Wireless to other parts of the house.

Ok. I have a wireless netopia eircom router thingy upstairs in my house. It's beside our PC. I have my xbox downstairs in my playroom. Now my Laptop picks up the wireless connection in this room as does the xBox. But it is very poor. I can't get my PSP or PDA to work here. It is not possible to move the netopia eircom thing. Is there something I can buy to put in the hall outside the door of this room to boost the signal. I moved the netopia router to this position and I received excellent signal but I can't leave it there! I just want something that picks up my wireless connection and rebroadcasts it.

Devices exist that amplify your wireless signal. Some people replace the standard antenna/antennae with actual mesh antennae to improve signal. This might be OTT in your case.

Can you even more the router slightly? As you may well know, almost everything between the router and the other wireless devices causes a loss in signal, particularly metals.

Try rotating the direction and position of the antennae on the Netopia router to see if there's any improvement. If things are still really bad, you could get this device. It's a wired solution but uses the electrical cables in your wall to carry the network data. You'd need to buy a set and they are quite expensive.

Failing that, you could buy a wireless bridge and place it in a location where there's a strong signal. You can then connect a patch lead from the bridge to a switch/bridge and, in turn, to any other gear you want to network.

You could even buy another router and connect a cable from it to the other router upstairs. The new router could serve all downstairs. I'd recommend the Linksys WRT54G.
