Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Given the choice between the two I'd go with the Samsung but the best displays in terms of image quality & performance in your price range are two 20" models.

NEC 20" widescreen (glossy screen) (review)

Viewsonic 20" widescreen - corrected link

If you don't like glossy screens get the Viewsonic if you do like glossy screens get the NEC, the NEC is the better display of the two because it is incredibly bright and has great viewing angles but some hate the glossy look because of reflection it can cause in poorly lit rooms/areas.

You will need to use the Xbox 360 VGA cable for optimal results when in use you will be given the choice of 1680x1050 the native resolution of the display & the console will scale all content to that resolution.

720 is just 1280x720 pixels & 1080 is 1920x1080 the console has a built in scaler so even if the game is rendered at 720p is it can scale it to higher or lower resolutions.

Hey do you mean the 22 inch Viewsonic or a 20 inch viewsonic.
You mentioned 20 inch but the link shows 22 inch.

And why is there such a steep increase in price after 22inches? 23/24 inches seem to be around twice the price of 20-22 inches

Sorry linked to the wrong one.

This is the correct model VX2025 - the newer 22"displays from Viewsonic aren't quite as good as the 20" model that preceded them (not bad just not as good).

The reason for the price increase is most 20-22" displays top out at 1680x1050 but most 24" displays are 1920x1080 (1080p) range so they bump up the cost whether it is artificial price increase is hard to say but I'm willing to bet it is to catch the 1080p band wagon crowd.

Sorry to Hi-jack this thread. But is the vga in provide any better quality than the componant in?

Yes it is in general but it also depends on the quality of the VGA components used to interface in the display.

As far as I know if you use component to vga via an adapter for the xbox 360 you only get a signal of 1080p30 that is 1920x1080 at 30 frames per second

the new xbox elite with hdmi output is about to be released in the usa and is expected to hit the eu in late summer, as far as i can see this means future games will run at 1080p60 ie 1920x1080 at 60 frames per second

also be aware that tv's that have the fullhd1080p logo on them means they display 1080p24 or 1080p30 which is fine for blue ray and hd but may not necessarily give you bang for your buck when playine either ps3 or xbox 360 games in the future

also some tv specs have "vga in (no rgb)" - what this means i'm not to sure but i'm guessing it s a compatability issue trying to imput an rgb component lead into a vga socket using a converter adapter

Google some reviews for the Samsung 226BW, Essentially the newer "improved" model of the 225BW

    http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/535704/art/samsung/226bw-syncmaster-2-ms-22.html

Also a more affordable 20" version of it, which is the exact same monitor, same max resolution (1680x1050) etc., just has smaller size pixels:

Seems to be getting some good words said about it for gaming, good response time, HDCP support, and generally good preformance:cost ratio, only vga/dvi connectivity though unfortunately.

I have a 226BW arriving today, so I will let ya know how it fares.

Most 24" monitors are 1900x1200 pixels native, so they can handle 1080p (1920x1080 pixels) content better, but you'll notice the jump from a 22" to 24" will cost you quite a lot more, and the more affordable 24" monitors in the 'low-end' price bracket would tend to have a slower response time than a decent 22", 22" tends to be the sweet point nowadays for preformance:cost.

    Hi

I recently got the dell 24" 2407WFP which is very nice. Im using VGA, I havent gotten around to trying component on it as I heard its not great on this monitor.

It displays all res's up to 1920*1080 and does 1:1 mapping so it can display the res properly without stretching to maintain the aspect.

If you can stretch your budget id recommend it.
