laptop video files

hi all im not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes i have a HP laptop ok and i bought a jvc digital recorder and i can view files on my laptop and put them to dvd but i want to know how i save it to diff files ie mpeg or avi as the files are in 2 folders video and audio is there anyway i can take files off…

I am not sure I am following you.

Do you want to take the video files from the camcorder and store them on the laptop?

Does the camdcorder have a firewire port? Does the laptop have a firewire port?
