Ok, back to the original reason for this thread.

We are going to go ahead with this team event with $1,000 added to the prize-pool.

    I have three teams that are sorted as far as I am concerned;
UCC - Michael Douglas is making the selection.
DCU - Conor Bergin is making the selection.
DIT - shoutman is making the selection (He might be just finding that out right now but I'm hoping he's happy to do this).

NuiGalway - I need a poker society person or a volunteer to organise a team.
Trinity - Seems to be a bit of a lost cause at the moment but if anyone wants to volunteer to organise a team that would be great.
UCD - Seems to have lots of well meaning people in there that just don't have things organised so if anyone wants to volunteer again that would be great.

To be honest I've been really disappointed so far with the support that Trinity and UCD have given. Every other college has made huge efforts to qualify and motivate people to play but its slow to get started with you posh students.

Other colleges...... this team competition is open to you too - please email stephen@pokerireland.ie with any questions.....For details of how the winner will be decided please see the original post here.

If you can have your team members registered before Jan 14th they will be part of the $1,000 last longer bonus as well as this team event....see www.pokerireland.ie for details.

If members of your team think that they cannot lodge money online because they don't have a credit/laser card they are wrong. You can buy ukash vouchers in any of these locations in Dublin city and lots of other places around the country; They are very easy to use - I literally just lodged money using them and it took all of 30 seconds.
    SPAR LIFFEY ST
    SPAR LR ABBEY ST
    SUPER VALU ASTON QUAY
    CENTRA CAMDEN ST
    NO 8 BAGGOTT ST
    SPAR ASHTOWN

Sarah Lynskey is now the team selector for NUIG....I'm sure she will post here over the next couple of days looking for players to make the trip to the RDS.

I almost forgot UL....I need someone to volunteer for University Limerick.
That means that there will be 7 colleges at least involved in this.

i have no idea what the craic is with the card soc in tcd. i sent them an email. although i am a member, i have never actually gone to anyting they have organised so dont really know who is involved.

i for one wont be teling anyone about this tournament until after the 14th, then i will tell everyone, when its too late for them to compete in the "Last Longest" an i might stand some chance of getting my greedy little mitts on the $1,000 prize.
oh and by the way, i aint makin no deals

Colm O'Sullivan is the head man at the moment. I've had a few conversations with him (I say conversations but more like mumbles) and I don't think he's particuarly pushed to let players even know about the event let alone qualify.

He's handing over the reigns this Monday to someone new so hopefully they are decent enough and can get their act together quickly.....I'd hate to see so many people travel from UCC, UL and NUIGalway (total of about 50 I think so far) and not even get 10 or more players from Trinity.

Nice one, really need to get organised 'cos last years competition was full of Trinity and UCD players so with everyone else involved it could be really really big.

Stephen, I know this sounds a bit optimistic but what about having two teams per college now if there is the demand? I think there is going to be huge demand to got onto one of these teams since the ball has now started to roll...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 993 ✭✭✭bigslick

im willing to play for the ucd team (or one of them, if fiddlesticks idea goes through) if boba fett will have me.

Sounds good to me. We don't have to limit it at all really.....Each college can have as many teams as they like.....Lets just get one team per college first and take it from there.

I don't want this team event to effect the main event and once you are on a team no other players in the tournament will necessarily know you are also part of the team event.

Can any players that are interested in being on the NUIGalway team please PM me or email stephen@pokerireland.ie today if possible, thanks.....I will get you in contact with Sarah (team captain).

Right, so I guess I have the eh "Privelege" of being the captain for DIT.

So far we have four players, myself, Fiddlesticks (hopefully he will luck box himself deep into this one, Mellor and Ross(our EPT casher and no. 1 ladies man)

I think in the interest of fairness we should have our remaining two places filled by Bolton St students as that way it will be three Aungier St and Three Bolton St students on the team.

Anybody with reccomendations post on this thread or pm me.

    cheers

My Brother's sister's Brother used to go to Bolton St, will he count?

he can count, of course he can count, 1 +1 = ?
what i meant was does he qualify to play in the event?

he is studying lazyness at home in front of the TV,
he is getting really good now,
why only the other night i walked in on him and he was sitting in front of the fire,
    crying his eyes out,
when i asked what the problem was, he replied "I'm Burning":D

    now that's determination for you.

so, does he qualify or not ?

he probably wont turn up since he's so lazy, but i was just wondering:cool:

I've sent out the message to a good few TCD players to PM you and I finally found someone in the Trinity poker soc that gave a damn about this event.....He is sending out a group email this morning so hopefully all Trinity players will know about the event.

    Cheers Sikes.

I don't understand why trinity and ucd pokersoc and someone from there would not be advertising this. I mean it's a great event with great value, why wouldn't you advertise it and mention it as much as possible. It just makes no sense to me

I think the demand for the DIT team is probably big enough to split it, how about an Aungier St team and a Bolton St team, Mellor would you be up for it? We could have some sort of prop bet for which ever side does worse between the two dit sides.
    Would this be alright Stephen.

And Pat I havent been talking to him in ages he has exams and stuff but ill ask him next time i see him.

I dont talk about poker in college, at least not anymore since cardshark left.

I think I know 2 maybe 3 people in college who *might* actually know a bit about poker. I have never attended anything by the card soc in 4 years, its not my place to advertise a poker comp and i really have very little time at the moment to field questions etc.

btw i got an email from them today advertsing the uk poker student championship, maybe its becuase its irish they arent supporting it.

lol, I honestly don't know why they wouldn't advertise it (wether they want to make money out of anything they advertise, or if its just laziness I don't know)......Its actually really annoying me now that you got an email about the UK Champs and nothing about this......

But I did get in contact with one guy from the Trinity Poker Soc that seemed very enthusiastic about the Irish Champs' so hopefully you get an email later today about it.

Its also funny 'cos GoodLuck2Me told me a little while ago that the entire UK Student Champs' are being played online until they get down to a certain number of players, then they turn it into a live tournament (might have been last years tournament he was talking about so not sure if its the same this year).....I personally think this is a fantastic idea but I would much prefer to play the whole tournament live.

I'm really grateful to all the boardsies that have supported this event and I hope its going to help the future of the game and the image etc......I also hope we get more than 400 players.

Yeah sure, DIT clearly have the best chances of winning. so its only fair we give the rest a chance and split our team. i got a message from the soc advertising the event and the team event, so we'll get a bolton street team together. The prop bet sound good too.

I wouldn't like the online game, I thin kmy live game is far better than online, get too distracted, and learnering players ares more likely to make mistakes live that we can pick up on

Is it the team with the most points wins this prop bet? The losing team should sing YMCA at the break on Day 2 for the whole crowd. Steven is there wash 'n' go's or a supporting event on Day 2....
