Digiweb metro is a good option and have recently launched in Carlow
€20 a month for 1mb broadband (10gb allowance) and a free phone line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

    thanks, that was fast!

    is clearwire the wireless watcha-ma-jiggery-pokery?

digiweb looks like the front runner so! the girl wouldnt need anything more than 1mb anyway. MSN and downloadin MP3s. not exactly heavy on the cap. sure i've got 1mb at home and its grand, even for movies and games, so she shud be fine wit the most basic pacakge!

    Sister eh?
No suprise you jumped on that sentence!

As for the broadband go with digiweb as its a much better service than either irishbroadband or clearwire which are both terrible services.

for got to say if she has an eircom phone line all ready she might be better off with them as she will be all ready paying the rip-off line rental.

I love the way people are picking on me for saying what they were all thinking. DOnt hate me because I have balls, love me because I put myself on the line for you guys day in, day out.

Off topic, Im with Digiweb and never had an ounce of trouble with them.

10gb really does evaporate quite fast, each month. I think you'd be surprised.

That and I really think this would be better suited on some sort of broadband forum... if only we had one

ye I sed in me opening line why i posted here and not on Broadband forum. why ask a bunch of ppl from all over the country about carlow when i can ask ppl who live in carlow and have internet about the internet situation! makes more sense to me!

I've been with utv for over 2 years now found them really good, think theyve a wireless option too. My current package is 20.99 for 2mb and 20g download limit. Their web address is u.tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭tom_ass19

im with digiweb, got the 5mb line, 78 a month. very good service i think, also its kinda good in one way that when you go over ur cap they dont charge you, they just slow down ur line which is bad in one way but i suppose its better than payin more moula

Yes and by your logic there is also a regional forum that would similarly suit your needs. But that isnt the point, there is a designated fora for designated subjects.

I'll let it slide, but you should know that "I know this is wrong, but I did it anyway" isnt a valid defence.

I think digiweb have decent cheap phonecalls through the oul bosca too...neighbour of mine that has it was saying it cost him 6euros a month to phone spain 2 a week. Not bad, said he was on for half an hour at one stage.

could be a load of cornflakes, but I believe him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

    Cornflakes tbh.

I'm planning on getting broadband in this week too. (yae me!!!)
does getting digiweb mean having to get anything installed on your roof or any such hobnobery. I'm done in may so I'm looking for a quick fix

yep, a little box/mini arial thing. If your finished in May its not worth it as you have to pay the whole year up front in order to get it cheap 1mb deal (20 euros a month)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

    cheers. clearwire it is so.
I'll give them a ring then put through an order for 5 truckloads of klinex

ha ha. Make sure your room (or wherever you have your pc) is upstairs or a decent height. My brother and my mate both have had probs with them. My borther had to get a booster box off them because the signal was poor. He lives just outside Graiguecullen so thats not great IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

crappy mccrap crap. I'm on the ground floor out in college Green. is there anybody out there with clearwire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

I have clearwire. I live in anglers walk and have no problems. don't know if it reaches green road.....

Does Clearwire not block all peer to peer traffic? I think they have all the ports locked down. It might be good for general surfing but if you want to actualy download content ya might be better off leaving it well alone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,852 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

    shít in the rain too

I think I know a way around that but is it really that bad in the rain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

depends where ya live tbh. i've no problems with it but I'm not too far away from the transmitter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

I just got my clearwire box today. a little problem with reception but that was soon fixed. so far so good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

hows the clearwire working out for ya daithi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

great. myself and the lads I live with went in on it together so it costs about 1.50 a week. the reception was a bit of a problem to start but now we have found a place wth good signal and invested in a wireless router its all plain sailing.
the only thing I have to worry about is failing this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

I had to cancel my clearwire contract :-( I had to move back to tullow and theres no coverage there ...... You know about the refer a friend offer Diathi?
Its deadly!! Refer a friend to Clearwire and get your next month for €1. If theres a few of ye in the house then surely you can get a couple of months for €1 .... I referred 4 friends and got 4 months for €4.

    Excellent ..................

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

sweet by refer I take it you mean take illicit photos of friends in compromising positions with 89 year old turtles or failing that prostitutes and blackmail them into getting clearwire. Its gone a bit sh;t lately but I was told It wasn't the best service so I don't expect to be downloading movies or anything like that. was it expensive to cancel the contract shay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

hey, wat are the other options again? me sis asked for them to isntall this but shes not there durin the day and shes been waitin weeks for it to go in. wat are her other options?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

    The_B_Man wrote:

    Take a day/morning off

Failing that she can buy a clearwire box directly from carphone warehouse near McDonalds down town

The contract still isn't cancelled. The ****ers are to ring me but they haven't done it yet. I can't imagine it costing me anything to cancel. It's not my fault that they've no coverage in Tullow.

B_man ... theres no installation needed. It's plug and play. And there's reps everywhere. Surely she could organise someone to drop a modem into her at work or somewhere.

The only thing that needs to be done is set the Network Settings to auto detect but thats it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

i thought u have to get sum yoke on the roof?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

no its just a box you can stick in your window. the only thing with is that when its goo its very very good but when its bad its very very bad. I think its about 70 yoyo for the box and 30 a month for the first 6 months the 50 a month for a 2mb connection and 30 for 1mb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

is that with digiweb or clearwire?

oh and i used to work for Irish Broadband so i know how ****ty the ripwave is. so is this yoke ur talkin about similar to that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭daithimac

Clearwire. there not to bad once ya can get a good signal. they do a free signal test and I'd say she should have no problem bring it back if she buys it from carphone warehouse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭ShayK1

B_Man, If this is for Anglers Walk she'll be grand. I had mine in the Kitchen without and it had a perfect signal.
