And to say immortal technique isnt underground just because his album is in hmv is fairly ridiculous statement whats your definition of underground? HMV has all the dr octagon albums aswell and acts lilke non-phixion and cage i would not call these boyz mainstream by any stretch of the imagination... When was the last time you ever heard mention of him on mtv..seen one of his videos anywhere besides the internet..he's probably bigger in europe then he is in america which is the case with a lot of underground us rappers

I'd be interested to see what your basing this on.

When did anyone say IT wasn't underground, it was said that he was one of the better known underground artists, but i don't think anyone called him commercial anywhere?

As Oriz said I would probably stop short of buying Tribe albums after the first 3. The remaining couple have some nice tracks, but they don't hold up under the weight of their earlier material. So go with Peoples instinctive travels & the Paths of Rhythm, The low End Theory & Midnight Marauders!

I would also suggest that if you like De La that you check out Ugly Duckling, similar Old School sound with a nice tongue-in-cheek humour.

If you like Del I would also check out Hieroglyphics, who he was a member of, as well as Opio, another member of said group

Opio is a member of Souls of Mischief and Souls of Mischief are part of Hieroglyphics. :p

If you're going to check out Bay area Hip-Hop from the mid-nineties then you can't go wrong with The Pharcyde (Bizarre Ryde II and Labcabincalifornia). Also Latryx and Blackalicious.

Who gives a SH*T whos gangsta' and whos not. Gangsta' does not create good beats. This THUG mentality in hip-hop is bull. Yes, rap comes from the streets and from hustlers but I hate when you hear "oh his beats ****, hes not a thug".

Stop judging rappers by their street cred'. I know alot of people here don't but alot do and I just thought I'd toss my 2 cents into the mix.

    Now in saying that here are some I think have skills (whether they're thug or not);

50 cent (Get rich our die tryin')
    G Unit (The Gangsta Mix)
    Tupac*
    KRS-One (Prophets vs Profits)*
    Dead Prez (Lets Get Free)
    DMX (Year of the Dog)
    The Ambassador* (Get You Open)
    The Game*

*Listen to anything you can get of them.

The list goes on but these are some of my favourites.

What are those Decompoze, Black Panther and Hell RAZAH albums like? And has anyone heard Klashnekoff's album yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,171 ✭✭✭Neamhshuntasach

i was really impressed by hell rezah's album. very well produced and solid lyrics to go with. sounds like nas at times with his accent.

decompoze's album is really laid back. beats are slow and jazzy. a real mellow albums and an easy listen.

black panther's album is a concept album. he produced a lot of consistent beats and they are kinda dark. features a lot of good underground heads. murs spits flames on wheres the beef? well worth checking out

Yeah I'm a big fan of Hell RAZAH and 4th Disciple, one of the best MC's around today. If you haven't gotten it yet, check out Sunz Of Man Freedom Of Speech which was brilliant.

The Roots 'Game Theory' is an absolutely brilliant album, its nearly my favourite of their entire catalogue at this stage.
