Ive mixed feelings about the Bale saga. If we could get him in and Heinze out for the same money Id be happy. But if we over spend on Bale I think its a waste, we are solid at left back, no need to waste money that could be spent elsewhere in the squad.

This is of course based on the glowing reports I have heard of Bale.

Maybe have Bale as backup for Heinze (for the time being) & stick Evra (as Giggs' understudy) on the wing, he seems to prefer it there anyway! It's an interesting option anyway.

Evra was only pushed back to left full by monaco because they signed Jerome Rothen, so it could be a good idea.

Plus im sure that defensive training he's getting at the moment won't do him any harm, it's always useful to have a winger who can track back & since Ronaldo doesn't do it the Utd camp could be setting the foundations for another Giggs type player

Parma have signed Giuseppe Rossi on loan until the end of the season. I'm bit suprised, i expected him to maybe play a few games for the first team.

i personally do not think this is a good thing for Rossi, villa/watford/Sheffield United, these are the type of teams where he can learn his trade in the premiership and see if he can really make it. I dont hold as much hope as i did for him, I think alot of united fans are starting to feel the same.

anybody expecting dong to feature this season? or will he be loaned out?
i think he has got the number 21 shirt, so maybe he will stay and get a few outings on the bench though we are strong in that department now with ole and larsson, aswell as smith to come back.

also, anybody know how pique played against real on sunday night? he is doing well there by all accounts. nevilles replacement i feel.

From wot i have heard Pique played very well on sinday against Real.......they only lost 1 nil, i did see his good header hit the bar though, was unlucky not to get the equaliser

If we got Bale then he'd be loaned back to Soton so no need to sell Heinze, get rid of Silvestre before him and have Heinze at left back (still better than Evra IMO)....

don't think evra is good enough to be our left winger in the future and i can imagine us having to buy a replacement for Giggs.

very annoyed Rossi is shipped out again but hope this means we wont need him, cant wait to see Smiffy back!

and all the talk of trezeguet can go away, why would we sell (on form) the best player in the league if not the world!?

I think loaning Rossi out to Parma could be the first step to him ending back in Italy full time.

Maybe he has a touch of the Forlan's. Can't score for shít! ;)

Pity about Henrik. He causes so much damage to opponents. Fantastic fitness levels for a 35 year old too. What do you all think of Dong's new contract? Does Fergie really believe in this guy...

    Dong goals 2005

    Dong goals 2006

I think Rossis move is a good thing.
With the inclusion of Larsson and the brilliance of Ole he was unlikely to get much time on the pitch this season, especially in the money end of it. Fergie is not interested in blooding youth this season, he is interested in winning the league, so there are 4 strikers who are always gona play ahead of him. A move to Parma, get some regular games in a league which suits his talents, and then move back to united next season to start his career good and proper.

The loan move to Newcastle never should have happened, but the last minute signing of Sibierski was something Fergie didn't expect.
Pique is doing great on loan abroad, and he is defo coming back to United as a new CB (not a RB). I expect Rossi to do the same

One report i heard was that Fergie is sending him to Parma on loan as thats were we bought him from, and they are struggling a bit with relegation, in other words Fergis is trying to help Parma stay in Seria A

Major LOL @ this ! I dont think even Chelsea would hand over that cash for him. Saints putting the valuation down to scare would be suitors off me thinks. He won't sign a new contract and his value will fall in the summer, he'll be sold for about £6m Id say.

Heinze & Evra are men, this lad is a boy, if hes worth £12m then Heinze must be worth £20m :p

And whats Micah Richards worth while we're at it?

I love how Man Utd fans can value players they've probably never even seen.

Excuse the cynicism, but this time yesterday someone on this very thread was assessing a player when they didn't even know what club they played for...

    And your point is MRJoeSoap?

I was basing my "assessment" as you call it on the few times I've seen Podolski play for the German national team, not his club. I also didn't try and place a value on this player as you seem to be inferring.

Whats any player worth? Was SWP worth £21m ? Ehhh NO !
I am only one punter, I dont dictate what my club pay for players
Carrick wasnt worth £18m IMHO but hey Utd still went and bought him!

Richards, hes shown potential and is a little older than Bale but anything more than £8m is mad money imo.José was quoted big £££ for him so Chelsea finally got sense and told City where to stick it. If Utd paid £12m for Bale then best of luck to them but I wouldnt be getting excited over it.We have our own priorities and left back aint one of them!

Its also a bit rich to say UTD Fans pass comment on players they have never seen. Read through any thread here and you will see punters talk about players their clubs have been linked with, the odds are though they have prob not seen that player play a full game for their club

    From Sportinglife

Now looking as though the pendulum has swung back our way...
George Burley wants to delay any decision on Gareth Bale's future until the summer.
The Saints boss has repeatedly stressed the 17-year-old starlet will not be sold during this transfer window despite the interest from a string of big clubs.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs have been linked with the youngest ever Welsh international but Southampton are determined to hang onto their prize asset.
Now the manager wants all talk of a possible move to be put on hold until the end of the campaign so that the player and club can focus on the promotion push.

Bale is reported to be stalling on the offer of a one-year extension to his current deal which expires in June 2008.
But Burley is hoping he will sign on again if Saints are back in the Premiership next season.

He said: "Things are going to be left until the summer. We want to know where we are and if we are promoted that would influence a lot of things.
"In the summer, the player and the club and everyone will sit down and look at it then. But he is definitely staying until then.

"I said from day one he would be here until at least the end of the season and hopefully a lot longer. Nothing has changed on his situation.
"I have spoken to him and his parents and they are very happy with the way he is progressing here and no-one has any thoughts that he is going to leave before the end of the season."

Asked about reports suggesting that Saints have already turned down an £8m bid from Man Utd, Burley quipped: "Is that for his right foot or his left?
    "
The club are desperate to keep Gareth as long as possible and he has no thoughts about leaving at the moment. He is definitely staying until the summer and then we will see how it goes."

Burley also praised the way the level-headed youngster is handling the pressure of seeing his name linked with big-money moves.
He said: "Gareth is only 17 and the speculation is not ideal for young player. He reads the papers and has things pointed out to him by others.

"But he is coping well. I give him the occasional hug and look after him and tell him he is playing well, which he is.
"And I tell him to keep enjoying his football and to keep learning which is the key thing at his age."

that video has me very impressed about the prospect of Bale coming to Man Utd. However, if it is at the expense of Gabby Heinze, then Id be worried. I just hope Bale can back all this talent up with his defensive skills.

Yep, single-handedly driving his price up! He's actually crap, but its amazing what you can do with a few clips and some good instrumental music. We're laughing all the way to the bank!

I'll have Heinze over Bale any day, minute or second... Heinze is proven at United and is a former player of the year while Bale is proven at... Southampton. If United should get rid of any player, then it would have to be Silvestre, O'Shea, Richardson, Fletcher and it would be to buy a right back or a midfielder if anything.

If he signs for united in january, he would be loaned back to southampton for the rest of this season, and, most likely, next season too. So he would still be playing regular first team football. I do not see what the problem is to be honest.

In fairness I don't think picking one over the other right now is really the issue. Bale is obviously one for the future while Heinze is one for the present. However with Evra also now a player for the present, Fergie may feel he is sufficiently covered at left back for the moment (Silvestre and O'Shea can play there too) and sees Bale as an investment. I think he'd be an excellent signing and while Heinze is a great player, losing him wouldn't exactly be a disaster.
