Monitoring of bandwidth usage

    Hi,

I have a Linksys WRT54GL router, and a Zyxel Broadband modem (think it's the prestige 660RU or some such). These are being used to share the internet connection in the house that I share with 3 others. Problem is, I think one of my housemates is using well beyond her own quota, and as a result, is eating significantly into everyone elses allowances.

Does anyone know of any firmware for the Linksys one (I'm 99% sure that this is one that can be used with 3rd party firmwares) that might allow me to monitor the usage of internet bandwidth by particular computers on the network? I can't see any option available in either router to implement this kind of a set up at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Yes

    bandwidth log
    http://www.hetos.de/bwlog.html

Deploy squid as a transparent proxy if you want to stop bittorrent and limewire
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Squid_Transparent_Proxy

if you set up a static dhcp entry for yourself and change routing you can bypass the proxy automatically to avoid restrictions.

read up before you do this as turning ur router into a brick isnt funny

Cheers for that. I'd be very cautious in doing any of this anyway. I don't really mind what programs and traffic my housemates are using, more the amount than anything else.

Might try the bwlog atop DD-WRT firmware and see how it goes.

    Thanks again.
