Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Help installing XP upgrade?

Guys, would be very grateful for any help with the problem I have at the minute.

I am attempting to upgrade my laptop operating system from Windows XP Home to Windows XP Professional. My laptop is a Compaq C300EA. When I turn on the computer, load it up, insert the disc and attempt to install, it refuses to accept the Product Key. I get the message:

"The CD key which you entered is invalid. Please try again."

When I attempt to boot from disc, by restarting the computer with the disc still inside, it goes into setup mode, installs a bunch of files and then stops and tells me:

"Setup did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer. Make sure your hard disc drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disc-related hardware configuration is correct, THis may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program."

Any help for this infuriating problem would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

It's a valid disc which I bought from a student store at www.micromail.ie

After the disc didn't work, I contacted them and they sent me another disc, but the same thing happened.

You wouldn't happen to be mixing up a zero for an eight, or a one for an L?

That's a peculiar error message -- "I can't read from the CD even though I just copied a few hundred files off it" [give or take]. How are you for space on your hard drive?

When they sent you a new CD, they didn't send you a different product key, did they?

Also, is it an OEM or a retail copy?

    Not specifically a laptop problem.

    Moving to Windows.
