Em... NO! They're not that desperate! tongue.gif

If not Kevin then my second choice would be (maybe you should look away from the screen now if you are of a nervous disposition!biggrin.gif) IAN O'DOHERTY!

Ian was brilliant during the Seanad debate and at least he would cut out the crap from people. Much better than having some bland person like Joe O'Shea or Ray D'arcy.

Anyone think Matt Cooper would do a good job?

Know he's not interested but I reckon he could be good. Has much knowledge about sport, music (presented Today FM's programme on Radiohead), politics and also knows how to deal with a sensitive topic in a human way.

    I think he'd be ideal.

I never watch it anyway but its ot as if the presenter will make the show
They will still have the boring celebs on it telling us about their lives. The LL would be great if it was all serious discussion about thigs that ar going on i the country. And they could lose the live music as well, or else leave it til the end :pac:

Oh! I have just puked! I used to like him when he did @LastTV about 10 years ago but he has still has that monotone I am a sarcastic mutha fuca voice. His fluffy wuffy entertainment column in the indo is just pathetic. If you look up "Irish Begrugery" you will see a picture of Kevin and Ian shaking hands.

It doesn't really matter who takes over the chair as I think the Late Late Show is a beaten docket at this juncture.

Now will someone do the decent thing and please sell off this behemoth of a state broadcaster before matters get violent.

    How do you reckon that?

It has more viewers than ever before. And that's how a tv programme is judged, by viewership.

So a beaten docket it ain't.

I have to agree with DublinWriter on that one. TLLS has to be axed as it has come to its end along time ago.

I suggested this was a FACT a while back just like the following shows are also long past their sell-by-dates

    The Bill
    Hollyoaks
    Fair City
    Coronation Street
    Emmerdale
    EastEnders
    Casualty

    Etc etc

Why are they still on the air because no TV executive has the guts to try something new.

Eh, how can they axe what is their biggest earner?

They'd have even less money to make the programming people have been yearning for.

Having the corrage to come up with something better. For Example ITV plan to show the Bill at 9pm rather then 8pm so they can make it more adult and not to worry about the watershed. Why not come up with a really really good show to show at 9pm. Law&Order UK is just them clutching at straws. I mean British and Irish TV schedule have changed all that much in the last 10 years and yet year on year most channels have lost viewers.

    Mark Little.

He's young enough to attract younger viewers, but has a high profile with more serious programmes like Prime Time so won't alienate older viewers. He'd be a nice contrast to the lightness of Tubridy on the following night.

I see Paddy Power has Miriam as the favourite and interestingly enough both Colin Farrell and Dustin the Turkey at 500/1 :D:D

There have been strong whispers that Miriam O'Callaghan is being lined up for this, given how wooden she was the last time she did something comparible (a summer filler) it wouldn't be a good move.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

    Hopefully not!!!

About as sincere as the shady side of my ballsack.

RTE need to get someone with a bit of life and empathy here, otherwise all you will get is the DSouthside view on things.

We don't need a keith Duffy either, Howya Buddy, a normal decent unbaggaged presenter with a bit of spark and connection to the normal John Q Taxpayer.

Dump the Billie Barry graduates for Chrissakes.

Grainne is attractive no doubt but as wooden as Pat The Plank. Sile iis a munter though and her gob is very dodgy :)

For gods sake just pay Dara O'Briain already, I'm sure we could lure him back to do it for the million or so that Pat was getting.

Anyone got any solid arguments against Dara? He is brilliant at on the spot comedy and The Panel fell apart when he left it. They had guests on too and he was very good at engaging with them.

What is this obsession with Dara O Briain?

I really can't understand how so many people like him.

He wouldn't be able to conduct an interview without going "a...a....a..." every few seconds.

    It's highly annoying.

Not as annoying as someone that never actually thinks of anything to say even if you gave them all the time in the world like most of the other people suggested in this thread.

Just looking at Paddy Power there. They have only two hats in the ring.

    Miriam 2/5 favourite
    Tubridy 7/4

So it seems like it's Miriam's? I dont really like her interviewing to be honest. Would prefer somebody else, but if the choice is between her and Tubridy, I would give it to her. And I would give her the job as well ;-)

She probably will get it (even though I don't want her to), she was on the radio the other day still harping on about how she'd still take another cut in wages if asked again by RTE.

That kind of arse licking doesn't go unnoticed.

The job will go to someone who is already an Rte employee. They cannot justify another large salary, so someone already on a large Rté salary will find themselves double jobbing come next year, hence the bookies favourites.

I also cannot understand the Dara O Brian obsession, not because I don't like him (I do) but because the Late Late is clearly a job for someone who has accepted that they will never have a career outside of Ireland.

(Oh, and O Briain is on record as politely saying he isn't interested in that particular job . That should really give people a clue. )

Yeah Kenny is much better on radio. he is a current affairs guy pretending to be into stupid entertainment guests and it doesn't work

Craig Doyle would be a good choice

I like Mark Little, I think he has personality, but there's no chance of him getting it. I also like Philip Boucher Hayes but after his gaffe with Mrs Is-He-Way-High I dont think he will be getting promotion any time soon.

It's gonna be someone terrible so just grin and bear it.

Just give the job to the DJ 3000. It doesn't cost €600k of tax payers money to operatate and as a bonus it (unlike Pat) actually has a personality.

DJ 3000: Those clowns in in the Fianna Fail did it again. What a bunch of clowns.
Pat: [laughs] How does it keep up with the news like that?

    Steve Staunton FTW!

    He's a legend for interviews:

"I don't know, you tell me"!

It would be worth watching to see that :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Koloman

The more I think about it the more I think Mark Little would be a good shout for the job! There would be no problems with the serious topics and he could also step up and do the lighter stuff.

    God, if only.

Realistically, I'm pumping for Gerry Ryan, whose ego would envitably walk him into as much comedic gold as Pat's complete uncomfortableness around entertainment figures did.

And to that, I'd developed such a soft spot for Pat's trek though celebrity land - and let's face it, his interviews where far more entertaining than a 'competent' host interviewing these vapid excuses for human beings - that I was genuninely sad to hear he was leaving. Obviously, it's better for him and if the new host is well chosen, good for the show too.

The Toy Show will have a hard time living up to Pat's zenith in '07 and '08, though. He fitted the uncomforable nature of that show so perfectly.
