Goverment scheme to get rid of old cars....

I remember sometime back (last summer) that there was a scheme being set up by the gov where by they would buy you old car for 250euro in order to take it off the road so it would not fall into the hands of an incapable driver.
I think the car at to registered in your name for a period of time.
Does any one know if such a scheme was set up and if it was, where I could get the info on it.

What constitues an old car? Mine's 11 years old and it's worth more then 250 yoyo's. Try 2.5k and I might listen.

There is a new directive called ELV or End Of Life vehicles and it has apparantly come into force on Jan 1 , however it only entitles the end user to deposit their car at an authorised treatment facility or knackers yards in Ireland at no cost .
