Why i left this thread open as its is so relevant to another ice storm a brewing.
As forecasted, there is going to be another severe ice storm to hit the central US over the next few days as bitter artic air undercuts a very moist air mass moving north from the gulf of mexico. These two should meet over the central and midwest states giving continuous freezing rain for a couple of days untill the cold dries out the air which will only lead to extremely low temps and DPs.

Some forecasters are expecting daytime maximum to be no higher than 0F thats -18C and thats daytime temps in the mid west states.Power outages will be the obvious main concern as ice build up on power lines will weigh down the lines untill they snap and falling branches too.

I had the pleasure and misfortune in experiencing one of these ice storms in Jan 1998 when in the NE of the states in Buffalo.Condensation from my breath was freezing onto my face and everything was like a mirror from the ice.We measured an icycle 2ft long and the point of it was as sharp.

There will be lots of travel disruption from this especially at the airports due to icing.

Kinda funny weather they are having in America, with the winter being generally mild like it is here, but also getting these intense ice storms and blizzards.

yup, it's looking very serious at the moment. North America always gets the most amazing weather- the joys of continental weather. while i would love to have snowy winters and warm summes i would not like to experience such dangerous extreme events:
