Ok was wondering if someone here can help me with a problem.

The boot light stays on all the time and is draining the battery. I cant use the car alarm because it says the boot is open - but its not! Need to locate the internal switch for the boot light because thats where the problem is. Mechanic cant find it and Rover arent getting back to us.

    Its a 1998 Rover 400 Series, 5 door.

Come on people impress me with your fountain of knowledge! ;)

Take out the bulb if you can't find the problem or unscrew the switch for the boot light, or else get someone who knows how to fix it to look at it.

Any idea where the switch might be?

It could be built in to the lock, I'll have to check it if I can find one. Have a look at the owners manual if you have one.

The switch is stuck on the bootlid, easy fix.

Open the boot and remove the casing on top of the lock. Use a screw-driver to engage the lock mechanism, and you'll see the piece that activates the light. Just free that up, some contact cleaner might do the job

    10 minute job

You could try blutaking/cellotaping the switch to the OFF position...

No, the switch/light is there for a reason

All that's happened is the contact has jammed.

OP: Don't lubricate with WD40 if possible as it's an insulator, use something like Contact Cleaner

    is WD40 really an insulator?

It is, remember the add for it when it came out first? They got a Ford Escort and sprayed all the electrical components with it and drove it under water.
