Amazing tune. Over 30 years later, it still sounds like something from another solar system

wiki says: "Mellow Gold is Beck's major label debut, and despite previous low-fi recordings, is considered his first official album." i agree.

Why remove it because critics don't like it? Why do critical opinions matter to you so much?
i remove it because i realize it's not a good enough debut to be included on my list. end of story.
I'm afraid critics like psychedelia and Piper has achieved numerous 10/10 and 5/5 reviews from many critics, therefore your opinion isn't justified.
(btw, the later Pink Floyd albums were very much psychedelic, Barret's work was more the nonsensical aspect of psychedelia whereas the later stuff was seemingly more "thoughtful" or something).
goddamn you, i keep telling you that the only reason i dislike piper is because I hate psychedelia... i swear this is the third time i've said that in this thread. critics have nothing to do with it.
and i totally disagree about later records...the four records i mentioned from the 70s - wywh, dsotm, the wall, and animals, have very little or no elements of psych in them.

    here goes
    radiohead - pablo honey
For a man so obsessed with critical opinion I'm surprised you mention Pablo Honey as a great debut. It was generally panned by critics and music buyers at the time. In fact but for the re-release of Creep the album would have died a death. Average album at best, and even the band themselves would admit that.

You said my opinion on your list wasn't justified because critics thought differently.

What do you understand to be psychedelic rock? They're very different to Piper, but it doesn't mean they're not psychedelic rock. You hear much more reference to DSotM being associated with LSD and other psychedelic drugs than Piper(Despite the fact no one in Floyd but Barrett took drugs). For example check out this link and see how all of those albums you've listed are listed as "essential psychedelic/space rock albums" : http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=15

look, imo, those albums are prog rock and nothing more. psychedilia, for me is stuff like piper, like alan's psychedelic breakfast, like i am the walrus. stuff you might hear when you're high, overworked sound collages, like animal collective's infant dressing table, stuff close to nails on a blakckboard, but not quite there yet. dark side of the moon is LEANING towards that. slightly.
i still don't recognize the 70s records as psych.

We've been here before but Surfer Rosa is the Pixies SECOND album.

    Come On Pilgrim

    - was reviewed in the album section of NME, Melody Maker and Sounds
    - featured in the (independent) album charts
    - sold for album prices (IEP £8.99 in Virgin Megastore in 1987)
    - has eight songs

Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans and Godspeed's Skinny Fists have only four tracks and have never had their album status called into question.

Is Astral weeks really Van Morrison's first solo album though, I thought Blowing Your Mind was released prior to it as a full lenght album?

The Killers - Hot Fuss (I think you'd have to have something wrong with you to not think that's a great album)

How do you come to that conclusion? Im perfectly fine and I detest that album, its utter muck IMO.

I know people who like the album and I know people who hate the album and there is nothing wrong with any of them.

    Arcade Fire - Funeral
    Pearl Jam - Ten

Re Funeral, I was really suprised by that album. It is one of my favorites now and I hope that Neon Bible lives up to it. I don't generally classify a band as fantastic until I have heard a couple of albums from them, but in the case of Arcade Fire I was just blown away.
