    Rifle ordered/Scope ordered/Gunsafe installed/basic cert applied for
I even bought a staple gun to tack up my targets! So now
all I have to do is wait......

Is the Ammo Limit the amount you are allowed Purchase in one go
    or
the Amount you can have on your person or stored at home.

I eventually got to meet and greet my FO and fill out my firearms cert.
He was a nice guy and friendly enough bloke.
From talking to him he appeared to be shooter friendly and expressed
some frustration at the time it took to process certs and the way it was done.
(once it leaves his hands he has no way of tracking its progress!!!!)

He used the default of 100 Rnds.
I mentioned that I would use/like more than that as there would be
two poeple using the rifle. Would have preferred 300.
He kinda was not happy increasing it and
I did not want to argue with the man so left it at 100.
(can always apply for more at a later stage if needed)

When I asked him to clarify the Limit he said It was the limit I could buy
    at any one time.
I asked if I bought 100 rnds today and 100 tommorow
and had them on me or stored at home would that be OK
and he said yes it would. (Thats what spiked attention)

Is this true ? Not that I dont trust the FO but I want to be 100% sure I understand
what I legally can and cant do. (dont want to risk getting into trouble)

Conversation went a little into the grey area when I asked about if I had to
travel to and from the Range where I am a member of or if I was invited to
another range could I travel there.

Also in the future I wanted to go Plinking but not Hunting on someones land with their permission so do I still need to go off and fill in different forms and get
certs/signiture telling the GARDA how many acres etc etc.

The bits on the cert are all based around Hunting wildlife
rather than the act of fireing your rifle on someones land but
not necessarly aiming with the intent to kill an animal.
I have no interest is Killing anything for sport but I would like the freedom
of being able to have a bit of (safe of course) Fun shooting l
like maybe popping a balloon or shooting a coke can at various ranges
so your not confined to a set distance and a circle with a black dot on it.

It's the amount you can have in your possession at any one time, whether it be on your person or at home or split between the two.

True, but better to sort this stuff early if possible.
And I'm surprised he didn't point out that except in some special cases, you can't have two people on the one rifle with only one licence...
When I asked him to clarify the Limit he said It was the limit I could buy

Technically, that's true - you can't buy any more than 100. It's just that if you had 50 at home, you couldn't buy any more than 50 in the shop because you bought the other 50 earlier.
I asked if I bought 100 rnds today and 100 tommorow
and had them on me or stored at home would that be OK

    Er, no. Not even close.
Conversation went a little into the grey area when I asked about if I had to

With the licence you can pretty much go anywhere in the state at any time with the rifle.
Also in the future I wanted to go Plinking but not Hunting on someones land with their permission so do I still need to go off and fill in different forms and get
certs/signiture telling the GARDA how many acres etc etc.
That's a gray area. The new firearms act says all target shooting must be done on a range or you get jail time and/or fines. But it also doesn't define target shooting, so plinking might be in or it might be out.

I am pretty much in the exact same boat as you bullets. Have bought and paid for my gun, picked out my scope, bought my gun safe yesterday and have applied for my licence about 6-7 weeks ago. Now I am waiting to install the safe so I can call the guards and see if there is any sign of it. Hopefully it wont be too much longer as I am getting a bit fed up with all the waiting.

Ho long ago did you apply for licence ?

.17 (HMR) I wanted something rimfire modern and I could use
at 200m In case I eventually got bored of 100m
(And me being a bit childish they simply looked nicer than a .22 rounds)

If they can supply the .17HMR at the range I can happly buy more
as I run out. (at present I cant fire anyplace else anyway)

Does that include having someone let you fire their rifle when you are
both members of a range and at the range togeher ? that is if your in possession
of your firearm and your letting someone for lack of the better phrase
    "have a go off it"

Was told by the local gun dealer with my permission another person could
apply to ammend or take out an additional licence to allow them to use
my rifle. FO said that he knew of nobody in my area that has done this
    so far.

Applied for my Licence at 11am this morning so about 20mins waiting
and 20 chatting to FO. He's gonna check out my safe Sunday
(had planned on getting to the range that day :-( )

Will wait 3-4 weeks and start calling them if theres no sign after that.

Yup, that's permitted and totally fine.

You have to take out an additional licence, unless you're not going to use the rifle anymore, but other than that, yes.
FO said that he knew of nobody in my area that has done this

Yeah, but the FO has no formal training in firearms law, don't forget...

100 round is nothing for rim fire target shooting, 1000 or more is more realistic.

I have licences on other peoples firearms its standard enough, Gardaí dont recive much training on firearms certs and are afraid of making mistakes so keep that in mind.

I shoot clays a bit - I always buy in cases for it though of 250 - the limit on my license is 100 - any of the gun shops I go to say that it's fine for this scenario.
Everyone I know does the same.

    Sparks:
At the range I offered another fella to shoot my rifle as he was thinking of getting the same - range safety guy wouldn't allow it.

    Still illegal though.

    Firearms Act 2006, Section 2, Part 4(d):
2.—(1) Subject to the exceptions from this section ... it shall not be lawful for any person ... to have in his possession, use, or carry any firearm or ammunition save in so far as such possession, use, or carriage is authorised by a firearm certificate...
    ...
    (4) This section shall not apply to any of the following cases and such cases are accordingly excepted from this section, that is to say:
    ...

    (d) the possession, use or carriage of a firearm or ammunition during a competition or target practice at a club, shooting range or any other place that stands authorised under this section or section 4A of this Act,
So if you're in a competition or shooting at targets on the range, you don't need a licence. Legally, the range safety guy was wrong.
However, if the other chap didn't know much about the rifle, the range safety chap might be right in not letting him "have a go", not without some basic instruction first. Of course, this may be overkill, but it is technically what he ought to be doing...

Any sign of the licence ??? I got mine yesterday and I wasn't even expecting it for another week. I was delighted. It was in fact a fairly painless procedure (except for the cost)

Nah no sign of it yet. Every single day of waiting is killing me.

I have been up shooting at the range with the buddy with his .22
2-3 times and finally I have found a comfortable shooting position.
I was only getting 1-1.5inch groups at 50m starting off.
What was throwing me off was the rests at the range.
The rifle kept slipping and canting and I was figiting.

We stuck a Harris Bi-pod on it and by the end of the day both of us
where shooting WAY better that we had been. I like the bi-pod as
its mounted position did not change so I got a bit of consistancy.

I got my scope and I adore it!
Optics Warehouse could not get me the AGS scope so gave me an upgrade
    worth 70UKP more.

    http://www.nikkostirling.com/Content/PlatinumNighteater/Nighteater.htm

Its a 30mm Tube and 56mm objective so I dont know if I can get away with
medium mounts or if I need high ones. (Have not got mounts yet)

I also got a sweet deal on a Range finderworth 255UKP for only 80UKP
I will probably rarely/ever use it for shooting but could not resist.

In the Future I have an interest in ballistics so would like to learn more
we may get ourselves a chronograph for some measurements.
