Whats going on in Galway at the moment.

Nearly every shop seems to be a moile phone shop.

In shop St, Meteor have even opened 2 shops opposite each other!Surely this is madness from a business point of view!

Do we really need all these phone shops?

No not at all, like the above said the small one had closed and the bigger one is open due to demand, as they say " if you build it they will come".......:D

Actually, an unrelated but on topic question?

If I drop in my phone onto one of the shops, will they charge it for me?

It is a worrying trend. How many do you need in one area?

The council need to sort things out before shop st is indistingushible from any other high st worldwide,in dublin they have just banned any phone shop, macdonalds, bookies that kinda thing thing from opening on grafton st for these very reasons.GCC needs to do the same here before shop st becomes faceless

makes a change from all the shoe shops that were there about 10 yrs ago...

I agree wholeheartedly with Cheesemaker. Do we need 2 vodafone (incl Corbettcourt), 2 O2, 2 Meteor and a 3 shop within 100 metres on our main thoroughfare, alongside the likes of Carphone Warehouse.

TBH, I think that the first signs of "Old" Galway disappearing was when O'Gormans, O'Connors and Naughtons disappeared. And now they want to tear down the old facia that was Una Taafes - I know that that building is an eyesore as it is, but it's one of the few old buildings left in the town. Why can't they just do it up rather than knock it down; a lot of cities would insist on it.

Maybe we'll get another glass and concrete hotel where Una's place was. Lovely.

Welcome to Galwaychester. Looks and feels just like every other boring shopping street of every town in the UK, but with lots of places to buy overpriced tat and get your phone charged for free. And still no Burger King - WTF? I'm ten years waiting for them to knock Una's and start selling Whoppers from the dog****-scented kip...
