Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Didnt see this anywhere.

Always sad to see someone retire so young, it's not somethign that happens much but theres one every so often.

He's a bit of a strange one though. He was out a couple of times with depression. The last injury only happened just before the WC and he is just back to fitness, but reckons he has no faith in his knee.

Good that Bayern are sticking by him and saying he can come back if he ever changes his mind.

Rob Jones always comes to mind when this subject comes up, great player but a shame he had to retire.

A huge disappointment to see such potential ruined by injury.
If he has no faith in his knee then he made the right decision.
It's unfortunate that we never got to see the best of him, the World Cup could have been his stage to shine, but it wasn't to be.

That's terrible news. A fantastic player on his day and was so highly rated as a youngster. Went off the rails a bit for a while but he could play. Sad to lose such a talent.

I think there is more to it than just injury. They guy has some serious issues that he needs to sort out. Your life is more important than football.

"I don't understand his decision at all," said Bayern manager Uli Hoeness.

Seems like there's more to it all right. Tis a shame though.

What a shame, he had enormous potential and had it not been for years of depression and councelling could have been one of the greats of today. Such a shame we will never get to see his best.

Injuries wore him down, got depressed about it and now injury has taken one of the things that actually made him happy. Hopefully he'll give it another lash.

but at least at such a young age, once regains some confidence and hopefuly gets clear of what other factors that brought him to this decision he could still make a come back at a reasonable level.

He actually refused to play for about 3 months at one stage a few years back because he was convinced that Bayern were spying on him and his family/friends.

He has serious mental issues and I think those could be the real reason he is retiring rather than his apparent lack of faith in his knee.

Dunno what's with the homage's, he was a decent player, nothing more.

you obviously never saw him pre injury/mental issues did you raskolnikov? He was a player with enormous potential and one we all hoped we would some day see the finished article. Now we will never see that.

    Is that so far-fetched?
