Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys,

I was recently informed by a friend that the downloading of software/music is not technically illegal in Ireland however uploading it for redisribution is very illegal. Its something to do with copyright.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to resource that qualifies this merky legal issue - prefferably a reputable legal source and not a pub lawyer as such.

Also for any admins that might get all hot and bothered by this I want to explicitly clarify that Im looking for legal information on this matter. I want to know exactly what the legal situation is so I do not fall foul of it. The wording in this article is what concerns me:

I'm no lawyer but I think your friend is wrong. He may be getting his wires crossed with the fact that the people that are getting prosecuted are mostly those providing the stuff for download.

Any copyrighted material which is downloaded/uploaded without the expressed permission of the owner is illegal. Thats the way I understand it anyway.

You may download it, but you may not use it. This applies to software, videos and music. Being in possession of a copyrighted works is not in itself illegal, however using that copy without the express permission of the copyright holder is an offence.

It's all to do with copyright and publishing rights. Uploading stuff is specifically illegal, because you are publishing the items without the permission of the copyright holder. It's easier to obtain a prosecution on uploaders than downloaders.
