Volunteer Facepainters needed for Paddy's Day event

If anyone would be interested in doing something fun for a while on Paddy's Day, Suas are looking for people to sign up for a few hours of charity shamrock facepainting.

All money raised goes directly to Suas' partner schools in Calcutta, India and Nairobi, Kenya, and provides a quality education for almost 2,500 children living in the cities poorest areas, some of whom are the first generation in their families to receive a formal education.

Many people from boards clicked through on to our site to look at information about our summer volunteer program in India and Kenya, so there might be some interest in signing up to help out.

Our signup page has only just gone up at http://www.suas.ie/suas%20in%20ireland05/suasevents.html and we're looking for people to help out in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway. Last year, we raised a fortune!

Thats a great idea and I wish you all the best with it.
Maybe ask some of the schools in the area

Cheers for the support; we're probably not going to ask the schools as generally we get a good number of people volunteering from the Suas Socs at all the universities and well, we'd rather people that age for this particular event.

Over 150 people have signed up for this already in Galway, Cork, Limerick and Dublin. It's a fun day, last year we had plenty of people that came along in the morning just for a couple of hours and ended up having a laugh all day!

The festival committee (in Dublin) have given us a big chance to raise a lot of money for the overseas schools by picking us as their official charity and we're also helping them to recruit volunteers for the festival itself, if you're interested.

It's on again!! We're looking for people that can help us get some press coverage of the event.

On March 17th hundreds of young people will take to the streets of Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway to support the education of children in the slum areas of India and Kenya.

Suas Educational Development, the Irish education NGO, is organising the day. The Suas volunteers will be painting shamrocks on faces and accepting donations to fund schools overseas. Every penny donated will be given to trusted education projects overseas .

“We’ve heard a lot about leverage lately, with the banks. This is the complete opposite. A few hours of volunteering can raise enough money to put two children – one Indian and one Kenyan – through primary school for a whole year. Now, that’s leverage.”

As always, details and signup @ http://www.suas.ie

Brilliant idea!! Will be working though on Paddy's day (those darn banks..). But if you are looking for people to go out in town the evening before Paddy's day, I would be well up for it :)
