Wall plate question

    Hi,

I recently moved in to a new apartment which I got pre-wired for 5.1 surround sound. Basically at five points in the room speaker wire comes out of the ceiling allowing me to hand speakers on the wall.

All these wires then appear from the wall behind the tv. My question is currently they just come out from a hole in the wall. I need to find a nice way of connecting these up to my surround sound system, other than having a hole in the wall with all these wires coming out of it. I was looking at getting a wall plate for 5.1 surround sound, ie. with 10 connectors on it, 2 for each speaker..however all the options I have seen seem to only fit a double gang box, for some reason my wires all come from a single gang box in the wall.

I would be grateful if anybody could help me out here. Essentially I only need a wall plate for four speakers, as i don't connect the centre speaker through the wall...

any help would be great, thanks

If you have a stud wall you could just replace the single box with a double dry lining box and bring the wires through that and connect them to your double gang speaker faceplate:

Or if its a solid brick wall you could easily surface mount a double box (http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Images/Products/size_3/MKK2183.JPG)over the single box, not as neat a job but fine if its going to be hidden behind a TV.

Dunno know if I am too late with this, but purchase a cavity wall box and a single gang face plate and if you go to www.radionics.ie and purchase stock number 177-661 x 2

Drill small holes on the face plate and there is enough room to mount the two speaker terminal on the plate and solder the speaker cable on to the connecters and mount on the wall.

Lovely neat job and costs less than a tenner.
Done it on a mates house.
