Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

its a little difficult to debug a live cd as there are no logs to look at

have a look here and see has anyone else had issues with your model laptop

Was just gonna say that. Its freezing when its trying to startup the PCMCIA
service. If you have ANY pcmcia cards plugged into your laptop, plug them out!

If you're still having trouble try the Ubuntu 6.10 cd. Its an install cd, but you can run it live. I've had better luck with it myself.

I've tried various linux live boot options...no joy

Am currently downloading unbuntu...thanks for the replies!

Not just those, but by the looks of things its a PCMCIA card thats giving the trouble. Do you have any external LAN cards, wifi cards or maybe a sound card?
My PCMCIA creative sound card used to cause knoppix to freeze the same
    way yours does.

For Data recovery due to lost passwords this works quite well , you need nero to burn to a CD , then boot the laptop with this in the drive , then you can reset all the passwords and your in !!
