Well lorax,
i think i remember disagreeing with some of your posts in PI. So you can add me to the banning list.

It is one thing to say a forum should be shut down and quote spurious and fake advice as "evidence". Its another to start pulling names and demanding banning in feedback for no reason.

Incidentally, what would your advice would have been?

As for PI being ridiculous.... as with any forum you will get differing opinions, but some is very very good and even i have learned by just reading it.

As beruthiel said, if one person learns something then the whole thing is worthwhile. Sometimes people just need to sound off.... and, while not going into specific threads, if someone writes that they are considering self harm or ending it, the replies are positive. THAT has benefits in showing that there is at least one group or community out there willing to listen. But we in PI often don't get feedback direct onsite , occasionally we do get a thanks it helped.

I tell you what, why don't we ask the mods to take a pay cut from the wages they get for doing this... what do you say guys..50%, 100%?

Lorax, I try not to get personal, but do grow up. If you have an issue take it to PI and we will help.

Alternatively, use the drastic and unexpected decision of using the off button.

You'll also see that i'm not the only user who gives there opinion on all the links you posted but, again, it seems to be that you're just feeling guilty for the little swelling you get everytime you see my user name

I would suggest that before you correct another poster's spelling and grammar you ensure your own is perfect.

If you re-read your post you'll realise how stupid you look.

I don't see how someone could have a problem with a forum such as PI. Sometimes people need to get issues off their chest or just get some advice from people that can be non objective to them. The mods do a very good job of keeping that forum going and allow some threads to really develop without censorship or objection, which can only be a good thing where open discussion is needed.

Lorax, how would you feel if The Samaritans were shut down because somebody thought it was stupid or ridiculous?? I accept that some people may feel that way, but they are usually people who are lucky enough not to meet crisis or depression during their lives. Sometimes its just nice to talk to someone anonymously and get a different view on your problems.

Op actually the advice to go out or join a club is sound scientifically.

In depression the electrical impulses that are thoughts get tangled and the urge to withdraw into a cocoon stronger. this limits sensory input, which in turn lets the tangle grow. and so on and so forth.

When you get out and do things you increase the sensory input and therefore begin to dislodge the tangle.

However i am not either a brarin specialist, psychatrist or psychologist, but just trying to express what i have read.

Apart from that just about killing the forum, it would never, ever work.
Most people don't read stickys. That's a fact.
Those who do, will still think that their problem is just about different enough to warrent a thread.
Others need people to focus just on their problem and work towards a solution with them.
Some just need to let off steam and have someone read it.
That's what PI is there for.
No amount of stickys in the world will help someone who wants to talk.
Suggesting that a sticky is all that's required means not having an understanding of any of the above.

"I" feel that yes, many of the problems are similar and the advice also similar. BUT "I" feel that sometimes posters want to say something in reply to an OP whihc may give a unique perspective and may also be interesting.

Further, by using stickies, "I" will not get the unique information which may be pertinent to a particular OP issue, which may only become apparent after several posts, or even pages of posts.

I will liken it to samaritans as someone else did.. if you don't mind.

How would someone feel, if they received a "hello, we are here to help you".
If we take the analogy to stickies, then this would be reduced to
"Hello samritains: This is a recorded announcement, after the tone press:

1: depression
2: relationship problems
3: drug abuse
4:......"
you get the idea.
