Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just listening to the irritating Redknapp and got me thinking about who I can and can't stand to listen to.

    So I thought I'd set up a poll :D:D

    Sky
    0% 0 votes
    BBC
    41% 14 votes
    RTE
    11% 4 votes
    Setanta

    The poll is flawed imo.

RTE has by far the best pundits, but some of the worst commentators. I mean ffs, they put Ger 'Sideline Ball' Canning on The Premiership.

And even George is gone to sh*te. If he said Nicky Hunt instead of Stephen once more during the Reading game yesterday I'd have put my foot through the TV. Notable mention also to Adrian 'Julio Mendes instead of Pedro' Eems.

I don't know about RTE having the best pundits. I'd prefer to watch experts. Giles and Dunphy just aren't very good at judging a player imo. Someone like Brian Kerr is excellent but most people probably can't stand listening to him. :) In saying that, at least they give Celtic their due which is the most important thing. ;)

Most annoying for me is Marwood on Premplus. His voice alone wrecks my head.

The Gazetta comentators are pretty good imo. Unbiased and they know their stuff. Love listening to RTE pundits though, they don't have a clue what they are on about half of the time. They can't even pronounce some of the players names half of the time, but for controversial comments RTE's yer man!

Whats happened to Dunphy? I was expecting him for yesterday, being a "BIG MATCH SOCCER SUPER SATURDAY" kind of a day! Anyway bring back Brian Moore, the rest are pants. I like Souness as a pundit.

    Mike.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hamilton_%28commentator%29
Referred to by some as "Hamiltator", Hamilton is a household name in Ireland where his voice and refined commentary style of football are familiar to many.

    Who calls him that?!

I like the RTE crew but if Ray Houghtan is on I switch over.
    Can't stand him.

Overall sky would be the best IMO.

    No.1 Sky

Bottom would be Setanta followed closely by RTE with them two eejits Podge & Rodge (Dunphy and Giles), Jesus what a pair of fools....

As hard as it is be as bad/irritating as Pat Dolan is, Trevor Francis does it quite easily.

Andy Gray is the most annoying commentator and analyst and in the history of football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

    It depends really.

Sky have the best commentators and pundit for La Liga.

For commentary, I find Sky to be the best if Gray isn't there. If he is, then I don't know. I use footballon.net and I don't know what channel they have, but I find their commentators great. Simple, to the point, no real bias, don't hate flair football, don't focus on the ref all the time.

Pundits I nearly always think are ****, never really say anything interesting. I like the guys on Soccer Saterday, I think they are pretty good, especially Le Tiss.

Overall, I'm not too impressed with the standerd of commentators in general, and the pundits are normally pretty poor.

Anybody but Andy Gray he could not hate Liverpool anymore and love Man.utd anymore. I dont know how many times he has praised something United have done and Liverpool do the same thing and he starts laughing saying that stupid or whatever. Cant stand him. I would rather listen to Giles and Dunphy because at least you cant take them serious because some of the stuff they say is just so stupid.

from commentary, sky has to win this hands down lads, come on. as far as pundits are concernted, then MOTD is the best by far. who ever voted for rte, hangs you heads in shame, the commentary and analysis is nothing short of shocking.

Those guys on Shandong! I don't know wtf they're saying, which is a step up from listening to commentators that don't know wtf they're saying (I'm looking at you Sky, MOTD, et al)

I can't believe 8 people prefer ''THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD!!!11!!'' bollix from Sky over the others

if it wasn't for la Liga and the football league i'd be close to dropping my subscription

RTE's punditry is the best on the box by a distance, no one comes close.
Commentry, RTE has a couple of dodgy guys but I can bare them. Sky defintely loses points for the ever increasing annoying Andy Gray. BBC's is extremely fake and crap.I think Setanta's commentry is pretty ok, even Dolan is alright!

    RTE points winner for me.

I think some people are basing their answers on who does the best puditry and not, as the title suggests, the best commentary. If it is commentary, then I would agree with most others and go for Sky, with John Motson being my pet hate.

If its punditry, I don't really know which broadcaster is my favourite as I tend to like various pundits form across the board. Guillem Balague would be up there, fantastic analysis with no bias. Used to love Rodney Marsh when he was on Soccer Saturday and Chris Kamara is a character too. Hansen can be fairly spot on but he does have a wooden image that is difficult to ignore. I think Dunphy and Giles can be entertainig to watch but, both themselves and the RTE punditry can be incredibly negative and is equally as biased(anti-prem) as Richard Keys and Redknapp are (pro prem) and watching them is akin to sensationalist tabloid punditry.

    hmmmmmmm, lets see

Sky - they have Jamie Redknapp and Andy Grey. don't like them
    ITV - ****e all round
BBC - John Motson, Ian Wright. **** that
RTÉ - all round they are ok but get rid of Ger Canning for ****s sake

    RTÉ wins for me

Best commentators I'll go with sky. Best pundits, RTE.
