Removing Vocals from an mp3

Hey all, Is there any way of removing the vocals from an mp3 to make it sound like a backing track? Is there any programs out there that can do it or is it impossible??

As fair as I know its very difficult, had this problem doing a mix a while back, the only option I found was a program called YoGen vocal remover and even at that it didn't work very well

with audio editing software like FlexiMusic Wave Editor using options like “Band Pass/ Stop Filter or channel mix” can eliminate the vocals to some extend but completely removing the vocals is not possible
