    Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) is the new .NET 2.0 qualifications. Mainly at this stage they will be upgrades for the current lot of MCADs and MCSDs out there. They are divided into 3 sections, more finely
    than MCAD and MCSD

    Overview is here: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcpd/default.mspx

    MCPD Web Applications http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcpd/webdev/default.mspx

    MCPD Windows Application
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcpd/windev/default.mspx

    MCPD Enterprise Applications
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/distapps/default.mspx

    Ok if you have got an MCAD or MCSD it is possible to go up to the MCPD qualification in 1 exam or in the case of the MCSD 3 exams and you get all 3 MCPD qualifications.

    After much jossing around MS finally laid down the upgrade path for the dev tracks

    MCAD -> MCPD Web : 70-551
    MCAD -> MCPD Windows: 70-552
    MCSD -> MCPD Enterprise: 70-553 + 70-554

    MCSD -> MCPD Ent + Windows + Web : 70-551,70-552,70-554

    Where is 70-553 ..

    70-553 gives you the MCTS for Windows and Web Applications. Thats it.
    70-551 gives you the MCTS for Web and the Pro exam for Web
    70-552 gives you the MCTS for Windows and the Pro exam for Windows...

    And because you are an MCSD you more than likely are an MCAD too.

    So doing 70-551 & 70-552 gives you what 70-553 would give you and then some.

    After that you only need to do the 70-554 exams which gives you the MCPD Ent stuff. Only MCSD can get credit for this one tho. If you are MCAD you need to do the other exams...

    There was a massive amount of confusion for a while about this. Originally i thought you would have to do 3 exams to get the MCPD Ent from MCSD and then 1 exam a piece for the other 2

    Then it was clarified to 4 and then someone made a point of hey wait, what if you did this? And now its 3 for all 3 qualifications

    Hope that helps anyone on the upgrade path for MCPD from the .NET Developer track.
