Potentially Retarded Question

I recently bought a new 320GB samsung to replace my absolutely ****ed 80GB antique. But of course, genius me bought a SATA drive, little realising I required an IDE.

Question is, is it possible to convert, via adaptor or any way, an IDE port so that it will accept a SATA hard drive? Typing this out makes me realise how ridiculous it sounds but sure i thought I'd ask anyway!

Yeah I can but I was just curious about seeing if I could adapt the one i have. That caddy looks sweet but would you know if this would work?

There are SATA -> IDE Adapters but the ones ive seen look cheap and nasty and will work depending on your power connector on the SATA HD.

There is a PCI SATA Controller, that would be the best option if your keeping the hard drive....example.... http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=118181

Really returning it to the shop and getting a new IDE one is the best option in general TBH. If its online then you have a cooling off period in which you can return it no questions asked for refund.

EDIT: go with the sata controler card listed by Loki, sounds like a much better idea and prob easier and cheaper to get than the above!

Yeah, i used that sata controller before, only takes a few moments to setup, And will bypass >48bit lba too, Enabeling you to use larger then 136gb drives if your board is rather old.
